The album is 20x21.5x2 cm in dimensions and has 240 full color pages plus the covers. It is published in June 2021 and mailed to the participants despite the difficulties in the New Normal that the Covid-19 pandemia brought about the recent years. The 887 pieces by 289 cartoonists from 62 countries submitted to the event in 2020 are "resisting Covid-19" as Nidai Güngördü, the Mayor of Kyrenia Municipality, puts it concisely in his foreword.
And M. Serhan Gazioğlu, the President of Cypriot Turkish Cartoonists Association, reminds in his introductory words that "Due to Covid-19 outbreak, which shortly turned into a pandemic and the global halt of postal services and restrictions in national and international air transport, the deadline to register for the contest, which was 30 April 2020, had been extended to 31 August 2020 and world cartoonists were notified".
This weighty book perfectly covers the short bios plus cartoons or portraits of the jury members and prize-winners in both Turkish and English languages, snapshots of the jury meeting, the 19th Digital Olive Festival Opening Ceremony, the symbolic prize-giving ceremony and some touristic scenes from the historical town along with the winning and the many selected cartoons. There are also the special pages for the biographies and the work of the winners of the Gold Olive Outstanding Contribution Prizes 2020.
The cartoon on the front cover is by the Colombian artist Raul Fernando Zuleta and the one on the back belongs to the Italian cartoonist Marco D'Agostino.
Thank you to the organisers of the International Cartoon Contest, Kyrenia 2020, for sending me this great collection of cartoon art.
