The 17th International Ankara Cartoon Festival 2011
The 17th International Ankara Cartoon Festival is going to be held from April 15th to 18th 2011 during the 82nd Children’s Day activities, which are celebrated in our country every year on the 23rd April.

The international 7-77 Cartoon Competition will be organized under the 17th International Ankara Cartoon Festival. The aim of the competition is to make children familiar with the art of cartooning and to contribute the development of sensitivity towards humour by enriching their world with the help of cartoons you will draw.
All proffessional and amateur cartoonists will be welcomed to join in by drawing cartoons for children.
Cartoons can be drawn in black-white or colourful using any technique in either A4 or A3 size.
Cartoonists can join in the competition with an original cartoon that can be understood by children. Competitors must write their names, surnames and addresses on the back of their cartoons.
The deadline for the competition is February 15th, 2011.

The sole prize of the competition is the 7-77 PRIZE ($2,000) and the institutions’ commemorative plates.
The results of the competition will be announced on April 1st, 2011 in the local press and on the web.
The winner of the competition will be invited to Ankara from April 15th to 18th, 2011 as a guest for the activities to be held during the 17th International Ankara Cartoon Festival and will receive the award at the opening of the exhibition.
The International 7-77 Cartoon Competition catalogue and the certificate will be sent to those competitors whose cartoons were chosen by the jury and were printed in the catalogue.
Cartoons will not be sent back and all rights will be reserved by the Cartoon Foundation.
International 7-77 Cartoon Competition exhibition will be opened in various cities of Turkey and abroad.

Introduction:
The modern world is prey to wretched acts of evil totalitarians who see nothing but their interests. Indeed, architects of violence and terrorism have no other intention but to obliterate any other existence. Their evil deeds know no boundaries and their targets include the public from all walks of life.
Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Lebanon, Palestine and x are among territories that have for a long time been areas of interest for dominators. Although they have suffered great tyranny, these people stood strong to retain their pride and go down the history.
Objective:
The objective of this competition is to unfurl the evil face of terrorism that creates agitation, concern and insecurity in societies by killing innocent people to achieve its objectives.

The number of sent cartoons is 5.

-Sent works should be in 200dpi with 2000 pixel width or length and jpg format.

The Subject of the Contest: Job Accidents in the Construction Industry
The Aim of the Contest
: The construction industry is known as one of the most hazardous industries. One of the main problems of the construction industry is job site accidents: accidents causing crew death and major injuries. Accident rates in this industry are one of the highest across all over the industries. Besides causing human tragedy and economic losses, construction accidents also affect the productivity and reputation of the construction industry. The aim of this contest is to focus on the construction accidents through cartoons and increase the safety awareness in this industry.
1. The competition is open to professional and amateur cartoonists from all over the world.
2. The cartoons that focus on the subject of construction accidents can be prepared by any technique and with any color. Cartoons should be prepared either in A4 (210mm x 297mm) or A3 (297mmX420mm) paper dimensions.
3. Caricatures prepared in digital format can also participate in this contest, however printouts signed by the cartoonists should be sent for the competition.
4. Caricaturists can participate in this contest with a maximum of 3 cartoons.
5. Name, surname, birth date, postal adress, phone number and e-mail adress should be written on the reverse side of each cartoon.
6. The cartoonists are free to participate with already published works as long as these works have not previously been awarded in any other contest.
7. The works must reach the organizing association not later than 30 April 2011 and the address of “Anadolu Universitesi Insaat Muhendisligi Bolumu, 2 Eylul Kampusu, Eskisehir,Turkey”. The organizing association will not be responsible for the postal delays.
8. Awards:
First Prize ( 1000 US Dollars )
Second Prize ( 750 US Dollars )

5 Honour Prizes ( Honour Certificate ).

Sad news: Greek cartoonist Athanasios Efthimiadis dies today

ATHANASIOS EFTHIMIADIS DIES TODAY, 23 DECEMBER 2010
FECO Greece-Levadia President Yiannis Geroulias gives the sad info that the well-known Greek comic artist and Vice President of FECO Greece-Levadia, Efthimiadis Athanasios died today.
Athanasios Efthimiadis was born in Istanbul in 1944. In 1968 he graduated from Istanbul Technical University, Faculty of Civil Engineering. Living in Athens since 1976, he was married with two children. He could speak Greek, Turkish, English, French and was fluent in Albanian as well.
Athanasios Efthimiadis was interested in cartoon art in the early years but towards the middle of the 1990s began to draw cartoons. He began to participate in international competitions in 2000 and has achieved many successes then. Athanasios Efthimiadis retired in 2006 from the institution "the PPC of Greece" where he had worked as an engineer, and devoted himself entirely to cartoon art. He has won a total of 38 awards in international cartoon competitions so far and was also a member of selection committees. He was one of the artists whose biographies and selection of works were included in the "20th Century World Dictionary of Contemporary Graphic Humorists", published by the "Academy of Humor" in Spain. Some of his works are collected in the "Museum of Graphic Humor EU". He had published his cartoons in "A Cartoon Approach".
