Sinoplu Diogenes 5th International Cartoon Contest 2026, Turkey

SINOPLU DIOGENES 5th INTERNATIONAL CARTOON CONTEST
1. The contest is open to all amateur and professional artists worldwide.
2. The theme of the contest has been determined as:
REPUBLIC and DEMOCRACY”
In recent years in Türkiye, certain groups—despite benefiting from the democracy that functions, albeit imperfectly, thanks to the Republic, and enjoying the advantages of a postmodern lifestyle—have, with the boldness born of ignorance, openly expressed their desire to glorify and reinstate a one-man rule (the caliphate), a system rooted in medieval feudal governance.
The Republic, which came to life alongside the Industrial Revolution and encompasses fundamental principles such as democracy, the rule of law, citizens’ rights, and social equality, represents a progressive model of governance. Would it not require a kind of madness to abandon such a system?
As is well known, the concept of the Republic is not limited merely to governments coming to power through elections. Societies around the world expect from the Republican regime a healthy, sustainable, and continuously developing democracy. Fundamentally, this includes the equal and fair application of the law to every individual; the assurance that those in power are not above the law; and the guarantee that all citizens are equal before it.
In democracies safeguarded under Republican governance, fundamental rights and freedoms are secured and continuously expanded. Among the foremost rights in contemporary republican systems are freedom of expression, the right to a fair trial, and the right to education—essential elements of a healthy democracy.
Entrusting power to a single individual by abandoning a republic that prioritizes responding to the ever-changing needs of modern society, and replacing it with unchangeable dogmas dating back thousands of years, is not merely irrational—it is beyond absurd.
We expect participants to examine the concepts of Republic and democracy and to produce works that stand on the side of humanity and freedom.

Global Order in Transition: International Cartoon Competition, Rostock 2026, Germany

World Power & Reality – Global Order in Transition
Power, Actors, and a New Global Order

The global order is changing — old power structures are shifting, and new actors are stepping onto the stage. People in the Global South are particularly affected, yet their perspectives on climate, resources, debt, migration, and power are often underrepresented.
How do they experience the new world order? Who is being heard, and who remains invisible? What responsibilities do states, corporations, and institutions have toward those most affected?
We are looking for you and your cartoons that make power structures, inequality, and the voices of the Global South visible—critical, pointed, and thought-provoking.

Questions for your cartoons:
• How does the new world order affect the Global South?
• Who organizes the world—and who is overlooked?
• Whose interests really matter?
• How are these issues represented in the media?

Theme 2026 - Paint it simply
World Power & Reality – Global Order in Transition
— Power, Actors, and a New Global Order

The global order is undergoing profound change. Old power structures are being shaken, new actors are emerging, and international institutions are gaining or losing influence.
Key actors include:
• Traditional powers: G7 countries (USA, Germany, France, Japan, etc.)
• Emerging powers: BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa)
• International institutions: UN, WTO, IMF, World Bank
• Private actors: Global corporations, financial institutions, NGOs
The “new global order” describes the shifts in power and the processes through which rules, norms, and resources are distributed worldwide.

Perspective of the Global South
Definition of the Global South:
Regions that historically, economically, and politically have had less influence over global decision-making processes—such as countries in Africa, Latin America, Asia, and Oceania.
People from these regions experience the consequences of the global order directly—through climate impacts, resource extraction, debt burdens, or migration. Their perspectives and opinions are often underrepresented, despite being directly affected.
Perception and Media Representation
Perceptions of the global order are strongly shaped by the media. Reporting often reflects the perspectives of powerful states or economic actors.
Consequence: Certain narratives dominate, while the voices of marginalized groups remain invisible. Transparent and critical media are essential to questioning power relations.

Consequences of an Unequal Global Order
When the global order does not work for everyone, far-reaching consequences arise:
• Increasing social and economic inequality
• Conflicts over resources, the environment, and trade
• Migration and forced mobility
• Political instability and loss of trust in state institutions
• Environmental destruction and disregard for global responsibility

Fields of Action
Government / State:
• Promoting legal reforms to create clear rules and structures
• Strengthening transparency, accountability, and participation
• International cooperation to address global challenges
Private Sector:
• Promoting fair competition
• Combating monopolization and concentration of power
• Responsible use of resources and fair labor conditions
Media & Communication:
• Transparent reporting and oversight of powerful actors
• Exposing injustice and abuse of power
Society / Civil Society:
• Continuous pressure on decision-makers
• Engagement, participation, and public debate
• Making the interests of marginalized groups visible

Key Questions of the New Global Order
• Who shapes the world—and who is left out?
• Whose interests define the global agenda?
• What responsibility do powerful states, corporations, and institutions bear?
• To what extent are the interests and needs of the Global South taken into account?
• How is the global order perceived and represented in the media?
• What hopes, forms of resistance, and alternatives exist?

We have received testimony about serious irresponsibility in cartoon contests

We have received testimony about serious irresponsibility in cartoon contests

Submitted by Humor Sapiens on Tue, 27/01/2026 - 13:41

Dear colleagues at Humor Sapiens, I am submitting the following testimony for your consideration, with the aim of respectfully requesting that you consider publishing it in your media outlet.

Given its relevance to the defense of artistic practice and ethical responsibility in the cultural sphere, I offer this testimony regarding ethical responsibility in graphic humor competitions:

In 2025, I was awarded First International Prize at the Marul de Aur festival, a recognition that included a diploma, trophy, and cash prize.

Despite numerous respectful communications and a prolonged wait, these commitments were not fulfilled, leaving the prize contingent upon administrative excuses and repeated silence.

This situation contrasts sharply with my experience in other international competitions in which I have participated, where commitments were honored without difficulty.

I share this testimony not out of resentment, but out of respect for art and artists, and with the purpose of providing information that will allow the creative community to make informed decisions when participating in cultural events.

Normalizing silence in the face of these situations only contributes to their repetition.

Currently, the 2026 edition of the Marul de Aur competition is circulating with the same prizes.

Please accept my sincere thanks and best wishes for your work and future projects.

Ángel Ramiro Zapata Mora,
Cartoonist – Colombia

Dear Organizer,
The Regulations of your 42nd Edition the International Festival of Satire and Humor “Golden Apple” 2026 states there are cash prizes to the winners in three competition sections. Yet the amount and the currency of the cash prizes are not mentioned clearly in the regulations. While many organizations are mentioned as the supporters of the event, the exact sponsor(s) of the cash prizes and how or when they are to be paid to the winners is not clear.
Romania being a member country in the European Union, certainly I would like to participate in your international festival if such questions are explicitly answered.
Many thanks for your consideration in advance.
