The 13th International Don Quichotte Cartoon Contest 2022: Young/Brain Drain

13th International Don Quichotte Cartoon Contest 2022
Theme: Young/Brain Drain
"Brain Drain" is an ongoing issue for years, but also a problem. We want to update it a little more by adding the word "Young" to the brain drain. Developed countries are trying to get hold of the brain power required to implement projects in the fields of technology, industry and science, through brain drain from underdeveloped or developing countries. As for why we have added "Young" to the beginning of our title; talented and foreign language-speaking young people are more preferred. At this point, two questions come to mind:
- Why do these young people prefer other countries instead of staying in their own country, being useful and building a future?
- Why the countries receiving brain drain do not try to make up for this deficiency in their own countries, but receive emigration from abroad?
Young minds, no matter how talented they are, have trouble finding employment in their home country and see abroad as a savior. Professions such as doctors, engineers and software developers have come to the fore in recent migration from countries at war and the Middle East. Developed countries can employ these young people for cheaper wages than experienced personnel. Of course, it is not easy for young people to break away from their environment, but the issue of future is much more important to them than sentimentality.
There is also the "Hidden Brain Drain". It consists of young people who stay in their own countries and serve foreign capital. Their bodies are in their own country, but their minds serve foreign countries.
Among the countries that receive the most brain drain and have high job standards; Norway, Sweden, USA, Canada and Australia. These countries are followed by Switzerland, England, Germany and Ireland. India, China, Türkiye, Balkan and Middle Eastern countries are among the countries that give the most brain drain.
Türkiye is one of the leading countries in the "Young" Brain Drain. In 2019 alone, 330,289 people immigrated abroad. 50,151 of the immigrants are young people between the ages of 25-29.
Our expectation from you, cartoonist friends; Questioning and scrutinizing the "Young" Brain Drain with your lines. We may not be able to change the world, but at least we can try it on paper (or tablet). So what do you think?

International press cartoon contest "Land and Droughts" 2022, France

Land and droughts!
Rules of the contest
The international press cartoon contest "Land and Droughts" has taken the prism of droughts to better illustrate the role and place of land and soils in the functioning of the terrestrial ecosystem, climate regulation, food security, the maintenance of biodiversity of living organisms and generally in all terrestrial life and its well-being.
Droughts, their impacts and their treatment, expose the form of unconsciousness, indifference and even contempt for the earth and soils shown by humanity, while the warming temperatures, the fall of biodiversity, food insecurity and other threats, all linked to the continuous degradation of the land, have taken a worrying turn, increasing inequalities and poverty and threatening the future of human societies.
Article 1: Participants
The international press cartoon contest is an initiative of the organizers of the 5th Desertif’actions 2022 summit in Montpellier (France), that will take place from 5 to 8 October 2022.
The contest is open to any cartoonist from any country who has published at least one cartoon in the press since June 2021. Each cartoonist can submit only two drawings, black and white or color.
Article 2: Theme
For its 4th international contest, the organizers of Desertif'actions 2022 wanted to deal with a subject of a raw topicality in the countries of the South as well as in the North: "land and droughts”.
This theme follows the previous editions "the earth makes its climate" in Montpellier in 2015, "land and climate, time to act" in Strasbourg in 2017 and "draw me the Great Green Wall" in Ouagadougou in 2019.
Through humor, derision, irony or enthusiasm, as only a drawing can do, the aim is to highlight all the paradoxes, inconsistencies, ignorance, evasiveness, contempt or human arrogance expressed in the treatment that is given to land and soil in urban and rural areas. But also all the hopes, commitments, courage, initiatives and solutions such as agro-ecology, which are the seeds of a change already underway for a viable land and future.
Article 3: Submission of the drawing
The submission of the drawing must be sent by email at the following address:
(with the mention "DA 22 DRAWING CONTEST" in the subject of the email) before the deadline of August 20, 2022 at 00:00 hours in electronic format JPEG 300 dpi minimum for an A4 format.
The submission must be accompanied by the full name, possible pseudonym, postal address and country, phone number or WhatsApp, email address, website, and 5 lines of biography of the author.
If there’s subtitles or any text in the drawing, please send us translations in both French and English. Article 4: Prizes
Two prizes will be awarded by the organizers :
➢ The first prize: 1500 euros on behalf of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification
➢ The second prize: 750 euros on behalf by the organizers of DA22
The winner of the first prize will be invited to Montpellier in France during the Desertif’actions 2022 event from October 05 to 08, 2022 where the prize and a dedicated creation will be awarded.
All participants will receive a certificate of participation and the complete catalog of the submitted drawings.
Article 5: Jury
The jury will be presided over by a personality from the world of the arts and the press and will be composed of 7 people with different skills in the field of press cartoons and the organizers of Desertif-Actions 2022.
Article 6: Rights
As this is an event of general interest, participants in the contest agree not to claim any copyright or publication rights in the context of the Desertif’actions 2022 event and its aftermath, and authorize the organizers (United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, CARI and OSS) to use the drawings with citation of the author, only free of charge and for public interest purposes.
Article 7: Public exhibition
The 30 best drawings selected by the jury will be printed and exhibited publicly during the Desertif’actions 2022 event from October 5 to 8, 2022, and may subsequently be used for educational and awareness-raising purposes.
They will also be posted on the website of the organizers and partners of Desertif’actions 2022.
Article 8: Results
The results of the contest will be announced to the two winners individually in early September. Results will be made public prior to the Desertif’actions 2022 Summit.
Article 9: Organizers
The organizers of the contest are the initiators of the Desertif’actions 2022 Summit :the (NGO) association CARI, the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification and the Sahara and Sahel Observatory, in partnership with France-Cartoons.

Endangered Species: 29th International Festival Calicomix 2022, Colombia

INTERNATIONAL CONTEST "ENDANGERED SPECIES"
Closing Date: August 15, 2022
29 INTERNATIONAL CALICOMIX FESTIVAL 2022
September 12th to 16th. Opening of exhibitions, workshops, conferences.

The 29th International Festival Calicomix 2022 has "MEXICO" as a guest country and in the activities that will be performed has created the exhibition "Species in Danger" that deals with an invitation through a call to illustrators and caricaturists of the world to make images of catrinas and alebrijes of endangered species including humans and the little attention we are giving to the care of the planet and the point of no return of much of life.
In this dangerous and costly adventure of civilization, mankind will have to necessarily return to observing nature from where it originated. He is experienced enough to understand that the power that he has the knowledge and experience to solve planetary life and coexistence with other species will be the only thing that will allow humans to survive.
We invite artists from all over the world participating in this contest inspired and guided by the contributions of José Guadalupe Posada and Pedro Linares Lopez where we will award the three best works. We have combined the Mexican popular tradition with environmental alarms to give it that encouraging element of celebrating the lives of the beings we live with, showing how art affects the way to interpret and manifest.
We invite you to meet Posada and Linares these extraordinary Latin American artists who will bring us elements for our sample of "Endangered Species"
Coinciding our event with the celebration of the 170th anniversary of the birth of the engraver, illustrator and cartoonist José Guadalupe Posada, celebrated for his drawings and engravings about death. Have a passion for political cartoon. Developed new techniques for printing. He worked for and founded major newspapers. Consolidating the Day of the Dead party, for its interpretations of everyday life and attitudes of the Mexican through skulls acting like ordinary people.
The validity of the work of José Guadalupe Posada is clearly identified in a series of creations achieved in recent decades, from various means and techniques. Posed beyond his death, and his dead, he lives and is an important presence and cultural expression of Mexican art.
We add to this call the fantastic vision of Pedro Linares, with his imaginary figures representing animals and monsters. This Mexican artist collaborating with Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo suffered at an early age very strong fevers that led to him having agonizing nightmares. These visions transported him into a wild environment and in touch with nature, and everything around him, whether a plant, a rock or a cloud, was transformed into very colorful animal forms and in very strange ways: winged dogs pickle with fangs and countless grotesque figures. All of them pronounced continuously and obsessively the same word: "Alebrijes", a term incomprehensible and without any meaning. When he overcame his illness, Linares shared with his family these fantastic hallucinations, and began to reproduce in cardboard and stone the figures of his nightmares, molding and decorating them just as he had imagined.
BASIS FOR PARTICIPATION
The call is now open and will end on August 15, 2022
Participants can submit up to three works in A4 size and 300 dpi resolution.
We will award the following prizes:
First place prize of $1,200.000.oo (One million two hundred thousand Colombian pesos).
Second place prize of $600.000.oo (six hundred thousand Colombian pesos)
3rd place (FREE TOPIC) prize of $400.000.oo (four hundred thousand Colombian pesos).
Your participation can be done in any digital or analog technique, in white and black or in color. Accompany your works including your data: name and pseudonym, age, nationality and mailing address.
The event features a jury of qualified individuals for the selection of works that will be exhibited in the month of September at the 29 Calicomix International Festival 2022.
The participation of each artist in this contest allows the Calicomix Foundation to use the images for publicity, promotion and virtual and/or in-person exhibition without creating a contractual bond or fees. The participating works will have the name and nationality of each artist either for exhibition, print or dissemination of their work.
