Finalist cartoons in the 7th KalDer Bursa International Cartoon Contest 2020, Turkey

The 7th KalDer Bursa International Cartoon Contest has ended. The contest with the theme “Change is in the essence” chosen by the 18th Quality and Success Symposium to be held on 17-18 April 2020 in Bursa was announced to public and art-lovers on November 21, 2019.
After the announcement, 932 cartoons were received from 51 countries by 362 artists for the contest. It was a difficult subject. Caricaturists exhibit their mastery. The jury made the preliminary meeting and determined the finalist caricatures. 100 cartoons are in the finals.
The finalist caricatures will be published on facebook page between 17.01.2020 - 31.01.2020 for any copy, similar, etc. objections. Contact us by bursa@kalder.org with the caricature numbers. Thanks to all cartoonists.

25. INTERNATIONAL CARTOON EXHIBITION ZAGREB 2020

A. PARTICIPATION
The organizer of the 25th International cartoon exhibition ZAGREB 2020 is the Croatian Cartoonist Association. The festival is opened for everyone regardless of nationality, age, sex, or profession.
B.THEME
CUISINE (gastronomy, cooking, chefs, restaurants, catering ...)
C. ENTRIES
Conditions of entry:
1. Original works and digital artworks will be accepted. Digital artwork is to be numbered in pencil on the front and pencil signed. Copies cannot be admitted.
2. Entries can be either black and white or coloured.
3. There should be the name, the surname and the adress on the reverse side of cartoons.
4. The cartoons must not have been previously awarded on festivals.
5. Maximum 3 entries will be submitted.
6. Size of entries is A4 or A3 format.

H. OTHER CONDITIONS
Authors of works that qualify to the exhibition are given a presentation copy of the exhibition cataloque.
Only on explicit request will remaining (original) works be returned to the owners in the end of the exhibition cycle (in the second half of the year 2021).
The organizer reserves the right to reproduce the works sent to the festival, Zagreb 2020, as the advertising material without being obliged to pay a fee to an author whose work may be used.
The prize-winning works become property of the organizer.

Theme: C A R N I V A L – E R O T I C A

Aphorism:
• In this category each author can participate with 10 aphorisms at maximum, printed in three copies, completed with code and particulars about the author, and set in sealed envelope.
• The authors are allowed to participate with more works, each as group of 10 (ten) aphorisms, marked with particular code.
Caricature:
• In this category, the authors can participate and send 3 caricatures at maximum. The technique is on their own choice, and dimensions A/4.
• Each caricature should contain author information on the back.
Contest deadline:
The deadline for submitting works is: February 14, 2020.
Awards:
• Three main prizes are awarded: Golden, Silver and Bronze Plaque, with the right of the Organizer retains the right to award a number of additional prizes.

THEME: Open

CONDITIONS:

1. The competition is open to any cartoonist.
2. It is acceptable to enter with cartoons that have been published previously. However, they should not have won any prize/award in any other competition.
3. Any technique is allowed. The cartoonist can submit a maximum of 5 cartoons. Originals or electronic versions suitable for printing in 300 dpi and jpg format sent by e-mail would also be acceptable. No resposnibility will be assuemed for documents sent in different formats and documents that can not be opened.
4. All cartoons must be 30x40 cm maximum.
5. The participants must write their names (first and surname) in capital letters, address, e-mail, country and telephone number; a brief CV should be submitted in a sealed envelope.
6. The cartoons must be sent to the following address, no later than 01 May 2020 (EXTENDED:) 01 September 2020

7. The results of the competition will be announced on 20 May 2020.
8. The cartoons sent to the competition will not be returned. All cartoons, whether they have won a prize or not, may be used for cultural purposes and may be published. Participation assumes acceptance of these conditions. All cartoons will be kept in the ‘Turhan Selcuk Karikaturlu Ev’.
9. The cartoons selected by the jury will be displayed in the exhibition and will also be printed in the album.
10. The reward ceremony will be held on 19 September 2020. The opening of the exhibition will be held on the same date, in ‘Turhan Selcuk Karikaturlu Ev’ for cartoons which have won an award or have been selected for display. The exhibition will be open until 01 October 2020.
11. Accommodation and meal expenses for participants who have won a ‘Special Award’ will be met. Travel expenses will be borne by the participants. Travel, accommodation and meal expenses for competitors who come first, second and third will be met by Milas Municipality.

The Addis Ababa Declaration for the Recognition of Cartooning as a Fundamental Right, presented on May 3, 2019 at UNESCO Press Freedom Days in Addis Ababa and then handed over to the organization's Director General, is in a new phase.

We have asked the French National Commission for UNESCO to carry this text.

This week, its President transmitted the declaration to all National Commissions for UNESCO.

We hope that this dissemination will help to open up, within and between countries, a space for discussion and reflection on the right to satire and irreverence.

Five years after the attack on Charlie Hebdo, this new step is all the more significant: it brings strength and legitimacy to this text, and completes making it a reference text on which cartoonists all over the world can now rely.

We must now bring this declaration to life.

12th International Don Quichotte Cartoon Contest 2020, Germany

12th INTERNATIONAL DON QUICHOTTE CARTOON CONTEST 2020

Theme: Say NO to "violence against Women!"
We are taking on another global societal issue after covering child marriages. “Violence against Women” will be the theme of 12th Don Quichotte Caricature Contest. Violence against women and childs is one of the most widespread violations of human rights. Some national studies show that up to 70% of women have experienced physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime from an intimate partner. To raise awareness and trigger action to end this global scourge, the UN observes International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November. Unfortunately, violence against women and girls is deep-rooted in our societies and the international observance serves as a symbol of resistance as well as a call to action to eliminate gendered physical, economic and psychological violence. Violence against Women has been increasing in emerging countries. Femicide-killing women because of their gender- is a longstanding issue in the world. For example, there were 430 female homicides in 2019 alone in Turkey. Although illegal, child marriage in Turkey remains also prevalent along with countries such as India, Iran, Mexico, Ethiopia, Chad and Niger. The purpose of this contest is to bring global awareness to this issue through the lens of caricaturists around the world and encourage solutions that will end this social crisis.
Rules of the competition:
1) Joining the competition is possible only via internet (with cv+address): violenceagainstwomen2020@gmail.com .
2) All submitted pieces of work should be participating in a contest for the first time. In the event of violation of this requirement, any awarded prizes shall be returned.
3) The caricatures are to be submitted in A3 size, with a resolution of 300 dpi and in Jpeg format (black and white or colour, no restriction as to technical colour processing).
4) The closing date of the competition is 31.03.2020.
5) Based upon the submitted caricatures, the jury will pre-select 100 finalists from April 10 to 20, 2020. These finalists will then be presented on social media platforms and on Don Quichotte's websites for the following 10 days.
6) The jury will evaluate the pre-selected works of art from May 1 to 7, 2020 and publish the results on May 15, 2020.
7) The award ceremony will take place in line with the exhibition opening in June in Stuttgart.
8) Submitted caricatures will be securely stored within Don Quichotte's archives. For any use other than contest related, permission shall be seeked from each author prior to use.
9) A contest catalogue shall be issued in pdf format and published.
