2. THEME: VANITY (VERY IMPORTANT: Authors who have already submitted works do not need to do it again.)
Is vanity inherent in the human being? Will a chimpanzee, who shares 99% of DNA with us, be a victim of this same trait?
Twin sister of narcissism, the dictionary also defines Vanity as: conceit, boasting, vainglory, haughtiness, presumption, pride, petulance, pedantry and fatuity; a key set of concepts imputed to the human species and capable of engendering the most terrible events. Think of the supposed supremacies that unleashed abominable genocides, the arms race, space warfare, empires, dynasties, and other kind of atrocities which have devastated cultures and nations.
But vanity does not stop there; it goes beyond the bounds of the social and changes its skin at will. It explores the entrails of the individual and becomes the central axis of a system based on compulsive consumerism, a permanent competition that demands the possession of the most expensive objects, the latest technology and the most perfect bodies: a super status quo that awards the title of "The best of all". Thus, without realizing, we repeat models of dictators decorated with fake medals and elite ladies who attach pillows to increase their bottoms. In this ocean of superfluous values, is it possible to navigate without taking on water?

ATTACHMENT 1: THEMES TO BE ADDRESSED AT THE CHOICE OF THE PARTICIPANTS
The exhibition aims to illustrate in a satirical way the LectorInFabula 2018 festival on the theme "Imagination and power in the digital age"
The general theme of the Festival
In a particular way, we will try to understand today, what has become our society starting from the relationship between Power and Imagination and the consequences of a series of revolutions that have shaken the western world starting from the Sixties socio-cultural revolution, when the individual has been placed at the center of politics in order to arrive at the great changes related to communication and mobility, determined by new technologies and by the diffusion of internet.
The information society (and the imagination?) in particular has created unprecedented scenarios with respect to social, political, economic and cultural issues. The advent of the twenty-first century brings with it new challenges, completely revolting the geography of international relations and with it the associated paradigms, thus putting into discussion assumptions that were considered, until recently, unchangeable.
Thus, the globalization of the flows of people and goods, environmental problems, transnational market agreements, the pervasiveness of communications, produce continuous transformations while the gaps and inequalities in the world are increasingly widening. While, everything that happens, suddenly becomes social fact only in function of the echo and the consensus expressed through the "likes" that it is able to produce.
All this should lead us to a rethinking of our way of life. Starting from the concept of Power, also seen as the individual ability to make the best choices, through three key words: knowledge, awareness and responsibility.
And to understand what role to entrust to the imagination, to our ability to look beyond, to remember to better orient ourselves, to elaborate concepts to solve problems, to link memory to the present, in the need to imagine and build our future.
Specific themes
1) The digital man
- artificial intelligence
- human and humanoid
- industry 4.0
- digital natives and digital migrants
- do androids dream of electric sheeps?
2) Power without imagination
- the dictatorships and the "egoarchi" (Trump, Putin, Kim, Erdogan ...)
- invisible powers (finance, markets, criminality ..)
- populisms and nationalisms
- fascists and xenophobes
- the bureaucracy
3) Imagination in power: sustainable Utopias
- equality
- peace
- environment
- Welfare
- migrations
4) Far web: a new vocabulary
- hate speech
- fake news
- selfie
- fashion blogger
- influencer
- follower
5) (Super) Powers and (others) Imaginary
- heroes and superheroes
- women
- artists and culture
- the children's gaze
- the madmen and the dreamers.

1.2.17
17th International Editorial Cartoon Competition for Press Freedom 2017, Canada
F for fake
Yesterday a global network with libertarian accents, has the Internet become a threat to democracies?
Corporate-funded think tanks and fake grassroots groups are now everywhere and consumers often have difficulty in finding the source of the “information” they disseminate.
The phenomenon is compounded by the fact that one doesn’t need to actually be where something is happening in order to report on it. Many have also criticized the role of algorithms used by social networks in limiting debate by enclosing their users in ideological bubbles.
The term “fake news” has further been co-opted as a means of silencing legitimate journalism or criticism, and when confronted by verifiable facts, the term "alternative facts" has even been invoked.
2. Prizes: three prizes will be given: a first prize of $1000 plus a Certificate from Canadian UNESCO, second and third prizes of $500. All sums are in Canadian dollars. Ten additional cartoons will receive an ‘Award of Excellence,’ Regrettably no financial remuneration accompanies the Awards of Excellence.
3. Only one cartoon will be accepted from each cartoonist. It may be either in color or black and white and must not have won an award.
4. The size of the cartoon should not exceed A4; 21 by 29.2 cm; or 8.50 by 11 inches.
5. The name, address, telephone number and a short biography of the cartoonist must be included in the submission.
6. The Canadian Committee for World Press Freedom shall have the rights to use any of the cartoons entered in the Competition for promotion of our Editorial Cartoon Competition and World Press Freedom Day.
7. The winners of the Cartoon Competition will be announced at the World Press Freedom Day Luncheon held at the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa, Canada on Tuesday May 2, 2017 as well as being advised by e-mail. The winner’s names and their cartoons will be posted on the CCWFP web site.
8. The winning cartoons will be exhibited at the luncheon.

Another false competition seems to be on the net again
THE INTERNATIONAL CARTOON COMPETITION 2015 -- MADE IN CHINA.
The themes of the competition:
a) MADE IN CHINA
b) FREE.
Participant send electronic edition (JEPG, 300 dpi) to: zjjxnnsg@126.com . If your works are selected, you send the original works to us.
Well, to whom to send the original works if selected?
To the e-mail address that seems to be the only organisator for the time being?
If not selected, what would happen with all the 12 cartoon ideas (maximum 6 each theme) of each participating cartoonist? Plagiarized, copied, sold to third parties?!
It is already 3 years now that we haven't had a pirate cartoon competition and finally it emerged again. Somebody is looking for the original ideas of honest creative cartoonists to paint or sell cartoons by his/her name! Not very difficult to guess the name(s)!
No cartoonist will participate I hope, no website shall put the regulation or promote this fishy competition MADE IN CHINA.
If any cartoon website editor doesn't want to belong to the gang of thieves of cartoon ideas, s/he should take the emergency action and delete the false announcement of the fake competition.
See the recent history of fake cartoon competitions here.
14.3.12
The Alps Humor Salon, ha ha ha !!!
"The originals will be exhibited at the Switzerland Gallery" although there is no such gallery in the world !!!
"The results of the exhibition will be announced on the The world's major cartoon website" of course, since everyone knows that website, no need to specify the site URL !!!
So and so and so, a fake competition without any responsible person or an organisation is emerging. If any cartoon website editor doesn't want to belong to the gang of thieves of cartoon ideas (in this case, about time, clocks, watches), he should take the emergency action and delete the false announcement of that fake competition, with red stripes on the margins as if of genuine Swiss origin!

Unfortunately, we notice that World Gallery of Cartoons Skopje is among the blacklisted cartoon contests by FECO: In this page you could find contests where the cartoonists rights are not respected because the organisers claim copyrights:
http://www.fecocartoon.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=27&Itemid=42
Of course, there is still hope:
Hopefully these contest rules will change and then, these contests announcements will join the main contest list !

And some fake cartoon contest news again released by only Mr Seyran Caferli's Cartoon News Centre: The International "Restaurant" Cartoon Contest 2012 !!!
Unfortunately Mr George Licurici re-published the info about that fake competition although with a question mark about the organizer. Somebody (with the e-mail address from China !!!) needs original ideas of you honest cartoonits about food and restaurant to copy from! For what? For nothing!
Serious website editors will not promote that false competition I hope and must protest the person behind it and he is already condemned by many editors and cartoonists for sure indeed.

Still fake cartoonet contest & a shame on the editors
Mr Angel Boligan has unveiled another fake cartoonet competition where he himself had been mentioned as the jury member without his knowledge and consent: http://caricaturque.blogspot.com/2010/07/boligan-protests-false-cartoonet.html .
Although it is a known fact that there is a kind of fight against cartoon art of great impetus, some editors of cartoon websites never hesitate to announce whatever info(!?) arrives in their mailboxes. Today (August 9) I see that Tabrizcartoons are also announcing this false cartoonet contest and without any source (!?): http://www.tabrizcartoons.com/en/detail.asp?ID=1666 .
Hope they all will reconsider this piece of news and delete it with a protest against the pirates as the world-famous cartoonist Mr Angel Boligan did honestly; otherwise people would wonder if they are themselves involved in that non-ethical exploitation!

Warning from Irancartoon about fake competitions
False Competitions!!
We recently see many competitions that have no evidence for being credible, and become a reason for unreliability and confusion of world artists.
We can mention Sun Shine competition as one of these kinds of contests. We see many problems in this Contest that shows its falseness.
1) In all Japanese contests, some of the Jurors are Japanese, but in this contest they don’t have even one Japanese Juror.
2) The entry form to participate in this Competition is not in Japanese Language, and this is an unusual process.
3) The prizes of this Competition are really unbelievable and are even more than closed Yomiuri Shimbon Competition.
4) This competition by the great prizes even doesn’t have a website for giving information, and they just gave one Email address.
5) Responsible of this False competition don’t give any answer to our correspondence, and don’t response our questions.
So it’s obvious that such Competitions are unreliable, and we can’t rely on them.
Iran cartoon Site by its professional activities and to lighten the mind of world cartoonist condemns these delusive activities and ask cartoonists by not participating in such contests confront them.

2010 FIFA WORLD CUP CARTOON COMPETITION
South Africa will become the first African country to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup, starting from 11 June to 11 July 2010. South Africa made its final presentation to host the World Cup to FIFA's Executive Committee at the Trade Centre in Zurich on 14 May 2004. On 15 May 2004, FIFA President, Sepp Blatter, announced that South Africa would be the host of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Thirty-two countries have qualified for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Six of these are from Africa, namely: South Africa, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Cameroon and Algeria. The rest of the qualified countries are Japan, the Netherlands, Korea Democratic People’s Republic, Australia, Korea Republic, United States of America, Brazil, England, Paraguay, Spain, Denmark, Chile, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Serbia, Switzerland, Argentina, Honduras, Slovakia, France, Portugal, Slovenia, Greece, Uruguay and New Zealand.
The World Cup will take place in eight of South Africa’s nine provinces, using 10 stadiums in nine host cities. Five of the 10 stadiums are new and the rest have been upgraded for the event. Is there anybody out there?
Below is the message (giving the participation conditions of a cartoonet competition) forwarded to me by a cartoonist friend in Turkey. The message is sent to his website mailbox.
Well, could you tell who is responsible for this competition? Is there an organisation, an association, a municipality, a city council, a gallery, a website, or a cartoonist behind this event? If there is, why don’t they show up?
Please remember what happened with the "Ethiopia cartoon contest 2009": http://arescuba.blogspot.com/2009/04/ethiopia-cartoon-fraud.html
All carried out through internet: they even revealed(!) winners, and reliable cartoon sites did not hesitate to announce the results!
There are few other fake competitions in the net nowadays I’m afraid. Please take notice and beware the cartoon collectors through cartoonet competitions. They are exploiting honest people’s priceless work! Some body is stealing honest artists’ invaluable talent, ideas, and gags!
Check the NEW FECO Model Regulations for Cartoon Competitions (2009), especially the PS note in the bottom lines: http://caricaturque.blogspot.com/2010/02/feco-model-regulations-for-cartoon.html
