4th International Don Quichotte Cartoon Contest “Integration / Assimilation”
The word „Integration“ in dictionary means coalescence, cohesion and adaptation. „Assimilation“ contains the meanings of alteration, resembling each other or adjusting oneself. These conseptions which seem as if they are different from each other build the parts of a complement especially in migration countries. Also one of them is the entity reason of the other one.
Nowadays neither the immigrants can accommodate to the society where they live nor they can live their own ethnic cultures freely. At the process of accommadition to the society of immigrants where live it can be possible that they are assimilated as much they diverge from their own culture also that they become estranged. But the real meaning of „integration“ is to be able to live in a country without losing self-identity. Whatever the ethnic origin of the person, the society accord the right of protection of his ethnic culture and language. Otherwise there is an „assimilation“ in other words „obligatory alteration“.
In social life „ideal person“ is who embrace the other cultures and folks. Our goal is that the societies do not confuse „adaptation“ and „alteration“ conceptions and that they provide that people maintain their cultures freely. The aim of our cartoon contest is to actualize this synthesis which can not actualize in real terms- through the cartoon art and to convey the required messages to the immigrant countries.
The Rules of Competition:
1) The participation in contest is possible only by Internet.
2) At most three cartoons can be sent.
3) The participating work may have been published neither with another competition presented nor on any way. With an offence, the deprivation of the achieved prices is the result.
4) The designs are to be drawn in A3-Size to deliver in 300 dpi dissolution and in JPEG format. They know both and black-and-white, and to be colored, the coloured representation is exactly the same as the colortechnical treatment of the work is incumbent on not a containment.
5) The sent cartoons are issued first on the web pages of the “Don Quichotte” under the column “Today”. Thus the work those is excluded the regulation to contradict, promptly from the competition. Thus in the past the pretty often experienced unauthorized counterfeit, of a work is avoided.
6) Deadline for the participation to the contest: 1 December 2009
7) The jury formed from the cartoonists of the different countries will evaluate the sent cartoons in December. The results will be announced on 15 January.
8) The prize ceremony will take place in Holland in March 2010. (Place and date of this meeting are communicated at a later time).

The 9th Kyoto International Cartoon Exhibition 2010 - Japan
Theme: "What is the best way to develop our planet" – Living on a beautiful earth, VI.
Deadline: February 28, 2010
Entries:
1- Each entrant should submit three original works, drawn in color together with the completed entry form.
2- We can’t accept duplications or digital printouts.
3- The size of the paper should be 30 cm x 40 cm or smaller.
4- Please leave a 2 cm margin all around the drawing.
5- Please don't draw on thick paper or illustration board.
6- Only professional cartoonists can participate in the exhibition.
7- Titles or captions must be written only in English or Japanese in clear BLOCK LETTERS.
8- There is no entry fee.
9- All expenses for sending the works, including postage and insurance, must be borne by the artists.
10- We accept only new work. Works that have already won a prize or were submitted to other competitions or published cannot be accepted.
11- All works belong to NPO Kyoto International Cartoonist Congress whether accepted or not. They will not be returned.
12- Only entries whose works are accepted will be presented with a catalogue after the exhibition. Except for the catalogue, the results of the selection committee will not be announced. But prize winners will be informed by letter.
13. Some of the accepted works will be printed in a brochure, on posters, in the world press or other printed matter for the purpose of publicizing the exhibition and NPO activities but not for making a profit. In these cases, any fee for the use of works will not be paid to the artist. However, if we have plan to use some works for purposes other than the above, we will first negotiate with the artists about his or her fee.
14- Artist whose works are accepted must agree to their possible use on the Internet by KICC for publicizing the exhibition.

16th RENDON INTERNATIONAL CARTOON FESTIVAL - COLOMBIA
RICARDO RENDÓN:
The outstanding Colombian caricaturist born in Rionegro-Antioquia (1894-1931), called "The Emperor" of the Cartoon. One of the most penetrating and fine Latin American humorists in the XX century, in his work the humor was satire, it was characterized especially by the political cartoon. His cartoons were true x-rays of the facts and of the individuals. He was pioneer of the graphic publicity in Colombia.
16th RENDON INTERNATIONAL CARTOON FESTIVAL
The Festival is an event sponsored by the municipal administration of Rionegro during fourteen serial years in memory of Ricardo Rendón Bravo.
The Festival, only in the history of the country for their trajectory and continuity; he has allowed to look at the perception of authors of but of 80 countries, main characters of the changes and experiences of the towns that contribute to the humanity's growth with the same humour. The laughing thought and its universal language, caricature is the most effective weapon against the thought that does not laugh.
It is a dream and a universal yearning to erase frontiers so territorial as ideological that prevent us to live in harmony and to visualize the light of the freedom as principle of peace and coexistence.
The Conditions:
The contest is open to all cartoonists all over the world.
The deadline for entries is October 20, 2009
The themes of the competition are Three:
1. Theme SPORTS, ( Football, Cycling, Athletics, Boxing, Water Skiing, Swimming, Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Taekwondo, Tennis, Bowling, Equestrian, Fencing, Weightlifting, Karate do, etc...)
2. PERSONALITIE "MONTECRISTO" the Great American Humorist of the XX century

Each participant can present in the competition a maximum of Three cartoons for theme.
You can participate with cartoons in white and black or in color.
The size of cartoons will not exceed 30 x 40 cms maximum.
You can also participate in the competition with cartoons that have already been published or rewarded previously, all the presented cartoons will be original. Photographs, photocopies etc, will not be accepted, and the transport of the cartoons in charge of the participant.
Participants are requested to send, together with their cartoons, a short curriculum vitae and a photograph.
In the reverse of each cartoon he/she should go the name, surname, address, telephone number and country of origin of the participant.
The selected Caricaturist will receive a free catalogue.
The jury composed of Colombian and foreign cartoonists.
The results will be announced in the month of December of 2009.
The cartoons presented in the competition won't be returned.
By filling in the entrance form attached, the participant declares and accepts in advance that (s)he has turned over the financial rights (s)he holds over the cartoon or cartoons vis-à-vis the public to Cartoonrendon without limitation on location, time period and number the intellectual property all rights for publication. (S)he agrees that Cartoonrendon may use such cartoons, exhibit them, keep them in its archives and publish them on the internet or through other media. The organization is reserved the right of exhibiting those works that he/she understands they can attempt against individual or collective rights.
The Participation in the competition supposes the entire acceptance and without reservations all the conditions.

Dear Cartoonist,
We are very pleased to invite you to participate on the III European Cartoon Contest which theme is Creativity and Innovation, and the deadline for the reception of works will be the 30th September 2009.
This contest’s theme is in accordance with the proclamation of 2009 as the European Year of Creativity and Innovation.
If there is a sector that has, in its nature, a very strong focus on creativity and innovation, this sector is called Cartoon. Therefore, developing creativity and innovation on the European creativity and innovation is certainly a double challenge. Here it is.
With the quality of the humour we will prove that creativity and innovation are sustainable. We need rivers of humour to enlarge the margins of the unsustainability!

GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. ORGANIZATION
This contest under the theme of “Creativity and Innovation“ is organized by the Portuguese Printing Press Museum, entity which organizes the PortoCartoon-World Festival.
2. THEME
The year 2009 was designated by the Council and the European Parliament as the European Year of Creativity and Innovation. With one purpose: to provide the opportunity for the enhancement of skills and activities that stimulate the use of creativity and innovation as essential for a sustainable economic and social development.
The humour here has an important role. We can go far constructing and deconstructing the creativity and innovation.
3. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
3.1. The works measurements should not exceed 42 x 30 cm (DIN A3).
3.2. The works must be originals and any kind of plastic or graphical technique will be accepted, including digital artwork if they are signed and if they are print number one.
3.3. The works should present on the reverse the following information: name and address of the author, title, theme section and year.
4. PARTICIPANTS
This contest is for European authors (by birth, residence or work), of any European country, being part or not of the 27 countries of the European Union.
5. SENDING THE WORKS
The works should arrive at the Portuguese Printing Press Museum (address: Estrada Nacional 108, nº 206, 4300-316 Porto / Portugal) at the latest on 30th September 2009 , together with the author’s CV (publications, exhibitions, prizes…) and the application form.
6. COPYRIGHT
6.1. The participation in this contest means automatically that the author is waving copyrights of his works in any kind of support (including web pages), concerning the production and diffusion of the contest, as well as late exhibitions and catalogue edition and other kind of diffusion material.
6.2. In case of using non-awarded works in other cases except this contest exhibition or its promotion (including the catalogue), copyright payment will be made to the artists whenever it takes place to.
7. AWARDS
To be defined timely.
8. JURY
8.1. The International Jury will have an odd number of judges.
8.2. The Jury decisions will be final with no subjection to any kind of appeal or reclamation.
9. AWARDED WORKS
The awarded works will become property of the Portuguese Printing Press Museum and will make part of itinerant exhibition. The others will be sent to the artists, if formally requested on the application form, after its public exhibition and possible exhibitions in other cities and countries.
10. SELECTED WORKS
All the artists whose works will be selected for the exhibition will receive a catalogue.
11. AWARDS DELIVERY
The prize will be delivered in a public ceremony, in place and date to be announced.

Competition for 2009 ICC Comics Award
This year, Competition for ICC Comics Award is being held for the first time. Art works created for the competition by cartoonists and comic artists from around the world will be displayed at the 10th International Comic Artist Conference in Taiwan. The theme for competition is all kinds of contents related with Astronomy and the Universe.
The year 2009 commemorates the 400th year since Galileo Galilei first used an astronomical telescope to observe the skies, and has been designated by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) and UNESCO as the International Year of Astronomy 2009 (IYA2009). As one of the oldest branches of fundamental study, astronomy has had a significant influence on every culture, epitomizing the apex of human intelligence.
Astronomy has made shining and brilliant advances in recent decades. IYA2009 is a global celebration to remember and celebrate the contributions astronomy has made to society and culture, with the theme ‘The Universe, Yours to Discover.’ Currently, many countries in the world are participating in IYA2009 in a variety of ways. Through these various events, the wonders of the Universe discovered through astronomy can be shared and appreciated by a multitude of people in many different ways.

1. If using postal delivery, work must be submitted on CD in a graphics file with a resolution over 300 dpi. The final appearance of the printed version after submission may differ from artist’s original intention.

* Judging and Awards
1. Judging method and criteria
→ 1st Round: Entries will be nominated based on quality of work and potential, among other criteria, by a panel of judges recommended by ICC standing committees.
→ 2nd Round: Awards for first prize, excellence awards, and recognition awards for nominated entries will be selected from among the nominated works by visitors viewing the works, using an on-site voting method during the ICC period at the exhibition venue.
2. Announcement of results: Announcements will be made at the competition venue on the final day of the ICC competition. Notice of winners will be posted on the ICC Website.

5th Salon of Humor from Paraguaçu Paulista with free and musical themes

Regulation - For 5th Salon Of Humor From Paraguaçu Paulista – Brazil - International
Dates
Registrations until October 10, 2009. Opening - November 27, 2009.
Participation
All the professional or amateur cartoonists can register unpublished works, since they have not been rewarded in another contests and expositions until the date of closing of the registrations (10-10-2009), and in the case of Comic Strip the character should be unpublished. Each author can register up to three (3) works for category, developed in any technique including them elaborated by computers. For each work correspondent a will own be filled (1) registration record. In the case of shipping for CD, to enclose file with the author's data.
Categories
The theme will be free for the four categories (Cartoon, Political Cartoon, Comic Strip and Caricatures) and with theme specified in Thematic Cartoon. The format will be the A3 (297 x 420 mm) without frames and mounted on cardboard in the case of the originals. In the category Comic Strip three will be accepted (3) boards with at the most four (4) comic strip in each board (format A3).
All the works, besides the works done with the hands, they can be correspondents for e-mail or CD, digitalized in 300 DPI, color way RGB, in the format JPG (high quality) or PDF obeying the maximum limit of 1,5 MB. The works can be sent through this site in the section Record of Registration.
Cartoon - Joke graph with universal theme and temporaries.
Political Cartoon - graphic Representation criticizes and well tempered of a political fact and/or social on present time.
Comic Strip - graphic Humor in sequence tans of pictures similar to published them in newspapers.
Caricature - graphic Representation with well tempered anatomical alteration of well-known personalities. This year with the theme - "ARTISTS OF WORLD MUSIC”.
Thematic Cartoon - That category will have a specific theme - "MUSIC".
Award
Three will be checked (3) prizes for each category. In the total of R$ 22.500,00 like this divided:
Five prizes of 1st place, in the value of R$ 2.500,00 each, distributed among the categories;
Five prizes of 2nd place, in the value of R$ 1.500,00 each, distributed among the categories;
Five prizes of 3rd place, in the value of R$ 500,00 each, distributed among the categories;
All the categories will have three Honorable Mentions through diplomas totalized 15 mentions.
The values of the prizes for the international works will be transformed with base into the value of the Commercial Dollar of the date of dispatch of the consignment abroad.
NB.: The award jury the right is reserved of not destining prizes to the categories that don't reach the enough level, transferring for another categories, or creating a reward special of the Saloon.
When registering in the Salon, the author automatically transfers the Cession of the copyrights of your work(s) when winning, getting, in a total, universal and definitive way, in all the use modalities and gratuitous title, that starts to integrate the Patrimony of the Saloon of Humor from Paraguaçu Paulista in Brazil for all the right ends.
In case the award jury verifies some fraud species or plagiarism in an/ or more registered works, it can cancel the reward checked. The works will be disclosed in the site of the Saloon after the inauguration of the same and they can be answered up to 10 days after the opening of the living room [sic], with fitting tests of any irregularity made from the jury.
Other prizes and mentions can be instituted the approach of the Organizing Commission.
Works out of the regulation or considered plagiarisms will be automatically declassified.

Results the 26th International Humor Exhibition of Piauí

It was placed on Pedro II square, the Teresina cultural core, the International Humor Exhibition of Piauí that received a crowd at the day of closing of its 26th edition. Cinema, theater, music, crafts, plastic arts and, of course, lots of humor designs that covered the square and nearby cultural places with great art and humor. And the public gave their answer with their attending, in each day of the event. But the Salon has reached its end, at least for this edition. However, the last day was one of great celebration. In the midst of a large audience, music and art exhibitions, the chairman of the National Humor Foundation and event organizer, Albert Piauí, led the event closing ceremony and announced the outcome of the Competitive Cartoon Exhibition – Theme: Environment.

The winner of the 26th International Humor Exhibition of Piauí was the Iranian artist Mohammad Ali Khalaji with the cartoon "Trees" (Top above). And, due the high quality of works, the jury decided to give two honorable mentions to the artists Pol Leurs, from Luxembourg, and Mahmood Nazari from Iran.
