On Monday, 1st April 2024, an exhibition of the best competing works, a festive announcement of the results and the handing of prizes to the most successful authors of the 30th competition in accordance with the Jury´s decision will take place as follows:

GRAND PRIZE (Grand Prix) Golden Keg and € 500

1st Prize Small GOLDEN KEG and € 200

2nd Prize Small GOLDEN KEG and € 150

3rd Prize Small Golden KEG and € 100.

• The Jury of the competition reserves the right not to award some of the prizes, to modify the amounts of the financial rewards and/or to award more prizes and/or honorary mentions. 

• The organisers will accept for the competition all works that will be delivered at the address of the Regional gallery in Prešov by Friday 23rd February 2024. 

• The organisers of the competition reserve the right to publish selected works in promotional materials and to reinstall the exhibition.  

• The diploma and the exhibition catalogue will be received in print by every awarded author and in the electronic form by every participating author who also provides his or her e-mail address. Main prizes and financial rewards can be received by an awarded author only in person on 1st April or through a person authorised by him/her. 

Competition rules: 

1. Each author can send at maximum five original works, including graphic techniques. 

2. The competition is open to anybody and everybody, and it is not restricted in terms of artistic design methods. 

3. The formats of the works should not exceed the A4 dimensions. 

4. The competition is non-anonymous. Each work should be signed on the reverse and bear the author´s
full address. 

5. The rewarded works will become property of the BEER GALLERY in Prešov. 

6. The deadline for the competition is Friday, February 23, 2024.

9th Cartoon Contest, Caminos de la Libertad 2024, Mexico

The Caricature is an act of provocation, of criticism; capable of defending freedom through humor. Caminos de la Libertad invites reflection and discussion on the different aspects of freedom, generating thought around it and making those who have not yet realized its value in their lives aware of it. 

Freedom is the fundamental right of human beings, but efforts to limit it have become systematic in the contemporary world. 

There is no more direct and effective form of communication than caricature. Since its inception, it has been a tool for criticizing and analyzing the reality of our world. In the search to promote debate around freedom, Grupo Salinas announces the caricature contest.

Guidelines: 

1. People from anywhere in the world can participate in this contest. 

2. The works must be completely original and unpublished, and if they contain words, they must be in Spanish. They should not be participating simultaneously in any other contest. Adaptations of other originals will not be accepted. 

3. "Freedom" should be the theme of the cartoon. The winning works will be those that best capture, analyze, contrast, promote and disseminate it, those that offer proposals to expand the options of freedom in Mexican society or to present examples of success and failure in the application of this right. 4. Each participant may submit as many works as they wish. 

5. The works must be presented in JPEG format at the best possible resolution. 

6. The works must be signed with a pseudonym. 

7. The author will send, in the same email as their work, a file in which they will write the pseudonym, the title of the caricature, the author's full name, their address, occupation, telephone number, email address, and a brief biographical summary. 

8. The works must be sent by email to the following address:

9. This call for entries will be in effect from today until March 31, 2024. 

10. The composition of the jury will remain confidential until the publication of the verdict. 

11. The results of the contest will be announced on the website www.caminosdelalibertad.com. 

The winners will be notified directly at the address, telephone number or email address provided. 

12. Those contestants whose works are chosen to be published must sign the necessary documentation that will be provided to them. 

13. The jury's decision will be final. The prize may be declared void if the jury deems that none of the works presented has sufficient quality. The jury will be empowered to resolve any situation related to the contest that is not specified in these guidelines. 

14. Three cash prizes in Mexican pesos will be awarded: 

First place: 30,000.00 MXN 

Second place: 20,000.00 MXN 

Third place: 10,000.00 MXN. 

These prizes can be claimed after fulfilling the tax requirements of Mexico and the contestant's country of origin. 

15. Up to seven honorable mentions will be awarded, without cash prizes, for works that, in the opinion of the jury, have sufficient quality. 

16. In the event that the prize published in this call for entries is not claimed within three months from the date of publication on the official Caminos de la Libertad website, as well as on its social networks, Caminos de la Libertad may use the amount of said prize for whatever purpose it deems appropriate, without the winner being able to make any subsequent claim of any kind. 

17. Any work that does not comply with the provisions of these rules will be disqualified. 

18. Participation in this contest presupposes acceptance of these rules. No awards or prizes will be given, nor will the works of participants who do not comply with the provisions of this call be published.

The color catalog of the International Cartoon Festival in Saitama 2023, Japan

Received yesterday the color catalog of the International Cartoon Festival in Saitama 2023, Japan. It was the 33rd year of the festival that adopted the theme of "WATASHITACHI" (meaning "We") in conjunction with the Saitama Triennale 2023. The Triennale takes the stage in Saitama, an urban center known for its liveability. 

And why "We"? What do you include in your definition of 'we'? 

Some find a 'we' in the smallest of communities and between family, friends, countrymen, and peoples of the Earth; however, could a 'we' not also exist between us and the myriad animals, flowers, trees, and inorganic objects that surround us? 

In a time in which we coexist with issues like climate change, social inequality, and war, is it even possible to step outside ourselves and obtain a clearer grasp of our world? This year's theme was chosen in the hopes of providing an opportunity for 'us' to reexamine our conception of 'we' (p. 02). 

I participated in the event with two cartoons of mine, one titled "Family reunion" on the theme of "We" and the second one of Free theme. Works on both themes by 37 Japanese and 45 foreign artists are included in the catalog of the exhibition that took place at Plaza North in November 2023. 

Saitama City is the place where Rakuten Kitazawa - the father of modern cartoon in Japan - spent his later years. The Saitama Municipal Cartoon Art Musem in the home to Kitazawa in his later years hold the Saitama-City Rakuten-Kitazawa Manga Awards competition each year. In 2023 they held the 38th edition and the winning cartoons are included in this collection book of "The Best Cartoons of Nippon" which are also displayed on the museum website here. 

The standard A4-sized (21x29.7 cm) catalog of "The Best Cartoons of Nippon 2023" has over 70 pages covering the color and the monochrome cartoons participated in the festival and selected for the catalog. Plus 28 pages included for the lists of the Japanese and the Foreign artists with their personal histories in both English and Japanese. With the help of this perfectly designed book of art, it is possible to compare the style and wit of the native and overseas manga/cartoon artists and enjoy the great humour in their works.
From Turkey are published the works of the following cartoonists in the catalog: Aşkın Ayrancıoğlu, Behiç Yalçın Ayrancıoğlu, Engin Selçuk, Erdoğan Başol, Halit Kurtulmuş, Hüsnü Berkalp Üstün, Kamil Yavuz, Kemal Özyurt, Muammer Kotbaş, Musa Gümüş, Seyit Saatçi, and Hüseyin Çakmak from Cyprus.

Competition rules:

2. Each participant can submit a single (one) piece of work of their complete authorship. Please note that any artist who submits more than one piece of work will be disqualified. 

3. Only unpublished work is allowed to participate. 

4. To participate in the contest, the author must fill out the form "Copyright" with which he or she declares that it is an original, unpublished work, that he/she owns all rights to the work and that he/she authorizes the Universidad Nacional de Colombia to reproduce it with academic purposes only, and in every activity related to the contest. 

5. Contestants close to the jury or to the organizers, or in any degree of consanguinity or affinity to them, are not accepted. Clarification: if an artist wishes to participate in the contest and has the disability described in this paragraph, he will have the option to participate without competing, in any case he must comply with the other items described in the contest rules. To do so, in the registration form you must add the text "Participate without contest" after the title of the work. 

6. The work must be done in a minimum size A4 (210 X 297mm.), Maximum size A3 (297 X 420mm.) 

7. The technique is free, hand drawing or digital, black and white or color. 

8. The work must be graphically explicit, without text or explanation, without any photographic or image support 

9. The work, which with its content is exclusive or violates individual or collective rights will be withdrawn from the contest and will not be considered in any way. 

10. The submission of the works is done through the link at the botttom of this page. The size of the work must be 300 dpi, in JPG format. In the submission you must indicate: title of the work, full name of the author, nationality, email, photo and brief CV of the author, in English or Spanish. 

11. The deadline for receipt of works is punctual without exception, July 31, 2024. Note: Colombia's time zone must be taken into account. 

12. The works of the contest will be evaluated anonymously, by a national and international jury, which will privilege the universal concept and objectivity of the subject (70% of the qualification), and the technique used (30% of the qualification). 

13. The works that meet all the requirements of the contest and are shortlisted will be published on the official website of the event prior to the award ceremony, in order to put into public consideration everything related to similarities, foreign copyright or any other type of objection. 

14. The forty best selected works will be printed and exhibited in the “Espacio del Hombre” of the Efe Gómez Library of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Medellín Headquarters. 

15. The jury is completely autonomous when it chooses the winning works, and also those that will be included in the exhibition and the Virtual catalog (PDF). 

16. It is understood that the participant fully accepts the rules and conditions stipulated in the contest, with their participation. 

17. The results will be announced through the page https://ciencias.medellin.unal.edu.co/cartunal/. The winners will be previously notified via email. 

18. The winner of the first place agrees to send the original work to the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Medellín Headquarters, and assume the shipping costs. If the work is digital, the author must print the work (with the measures indicated in the contest) and sign it with the number "1", for submission. 

19. All postal costs and bank deductions will be borne by the winner. 

20. The prize will be paid in Colombian pesos as described. It is clarified that all the costs of sending the prizes and others will be assumed in full by the winner.

INTERNATIONAL CARTOON COMPETITION SPECIFICATIONS:

1- The competition is open to all young people around the world between the ages of 7 and 17 (including 7 and 17 year olds). 

2- The theme of the competition: “Earthquake.” 

Purpose of the competition: 

To enable the young people of our country and the world to produce works that reflect the concept of "Earthquake" with the effective language of caricature, which is the art of reflecting a subject in a striking, critical, humorous and thought-provoking language... To draw the attention of the young people of the world to the "Earthquake" problem, which causes suffering in Turkey and the world from time to time, Raising awareness about earthquakes through the language of art… 

3- The technique is free of charge for the works that will participate in the competition. Your work may have been published before. However, it must not have received an award in any competition. Cartoons drawn by the same, similar or another cartoonist will be eliminated by the selection committee. All responsibility for any negativities that may arise in this regard belongs to the contestant. 

4- Participants can submit as many works as they want. However, more than one prize cannot be given to a contestant. 

5- Since participation in the competition will be via the internet, the cartoons to be sent must be maximum A3 (29.7 cm x 42 cm) in size, 300 dpi resolution and jpg format.

REGULATIONS

1. Competition Theme and Participation Guidelines 

The competition is open to cartoonists, illustrators, and graphic artists worldwide. Participants may request to participate out of competition. Such a request excludes the author from prize eligibility. 

The theme of the competition is: SILENCE 

Each author can submit a maximum of 3 works (cartoons or strips) related to the proposed theme concerning humanity and society, approached in a humorous manner. The works must be devoid of dialogue or captions and must be unpublished (never published or entered into other competitions). 

The organization reserves the right to exclude from prize eligibility any works that are already published. 

2. Submission Methods and Deadlines 

Artworks, along with the participation form containing all author details (downloadable from the website), can be submitted by February 28, 2024, through:

3. Submission of Original Works and Prize Assignment 

Authors selected by the Jury will receive an email with instructions on the timing and methods for sending the original works, which will be exhibited later. 

If the works are created exclusively with digital techniques, the author must send a copy of the work, dated, numbered, and signed. 

The works must arrive carriage-free and without frames. 

The Jury will award the "International Chessboard Grand Prize," the Special Prize "Sandro Carlesso," the Special Prize "Marco Sartore," and 10 "Umoristi a Marostica" Prizes. THEME: Open 

CONDITIONS: 

1. The competition is open to any cartoonist. 

2. It is acceptable to enter with cartoons that have been published previously. However, they should not have won any prize/award in any other competition. 

3. Any technique is allowed. The cartoonist can submit a maximum of 5 cartoons. Originals or electronic versions suitable for printing in 300 dpi and jpg format sent by e-mail would also be acceptable. No reponsibility will be assumed for documents sent in different formats and documents that can not be opened. 

4. All cartoons must be 30x40cm maximum. 

5. The participants must write their names (first and surname) in capital letters, address, e-mail, country and telephone number; a brief CV should be submitted in a sealed envelope.

Numerous factors that reduce the momentum towards the sustainability of economic growth and the increase in social welfare do not disappear from our agenda. The power struggles disrupting the steady and consistent growth of the world economy do not allow the markets to calm down; we also get our share. 

There is no time to lose to perceive the loss of natural resources. We need to continue life by taking the right steps in the direction indicated by science, recognize the problems in all their reality. 

Urgent and common problems faced by the earth stand as a blacklist waiting to be solved in front of all countries. Life is almost like an ebb and flow the waters rise and recede. 

It starts from a metaphor to expand the meaning; We need to meet for the purpose of a better life in the main atmosphere of 'When the Waters Recedes'. While the waters rise, we try to adapt to the changing environment; and as the waters receded, we experience constructing a more resilient life by building bridges between the past and the future revealed by profound remnants.

WHOOSH INTERNATIONAL CARTOON CONTEST 2023

(INDONESIA – CHINA BULLET TRAIN PROJECT)

Indonesia is set to launch Southeast Asia's first high-speed railway, a multibilliondollar project backed by China that will cut travel between capital Jakarta and another major city, by hours. The Chinese-made bullet train named "Whoosh" is built to take more than 600 people to and from Jakarta and Bandung in West Java in 45 minutes and is part of China's Belt and Road infrastructure initiative. 

The Indonesian Chinese-language newspaper "Guo Ji Ri Bao" is organizing a cartoon contest from November to December 2023 collaborating with Kereta Api Cepat Indonesia China, The Indonesian Cartoonist Federation (Pakarti).

1 – ENTRIES: OCTOBER 25 TO NOVEMBER 25, 2023 

The 15th Salão de Humor Humana Saúde is open to all graphic artists who wish to submit their own works. Each artist can register in one or more categories with a maximum of 5 (five) works in total, in the format of 30 x 40 cm (or 2900 pixels in height with proportional width and at least 250 dpi resolution). The artist can use any technique. The categories are: cartoon/charge, caricature, and comic strips. Comic strips should have only one page. If choosing comic strips, the artist can include up to 5 strips on the page. Entries will be exclusively made through the form available on the website: salaodehumor.com/inscreva-se, with a maximum size of 3 megabytes. The announcement of the winners will take place on December 16th. 

2 – THEME 

The 14th Salão de Humor Humana Saúde theme will be MOVEMENT (Physical Exercise and Sports Practices).

6 – CANCELLATION OF REGISTRATION AND LOSS OF AWARD

1. The competing works must be the author’s own. 

2. Professionals and amateurs can submit original works that have not been awarded in other graphic events up to the closing date of registration.

Single Paragraph: The Internet Prize follows the same rule as stated in the main text. Therefore, professionals and amateurs can submit original works that have not been awarded in other events up to the closing date of registration.

3. If any participant is disqualified, the artist in the subsequent position will take their place and receive the prize, if applicable.

4. The works must bear the author’s signature.

5. The following individuals are not allowed to participate in this Humor Salon:

• Humana Saúde employees;

• Relatives of Humana Saúde and Medimagem Group employees, regardless of the degree of relationship;

6. In case the award jury identifies fraud or plagiarism in any submitted work, they may cancel the awarded prize.

The GIN Foundation, the Quevedo Institute of the Arts of Humour (IQH) and the Vice-Rectorate for Research and Transfer of the University of Alcalá announce the 11th GIN-UAH Graphic Humour Contest, with the following rules: 

PARTICIPATION: 

The competition is open to anyone wishing to participate, either individually or jointly as writer and illustrator, in any of the following three categories: 

• Professional: They must include a short biography and a link to prove that they publish or have published in a permanent medium. 

• Amateurs. 

• UAH-FGUA staff and students. 

SUBJECT:

5. Up to three works may be submitted for each section of the competition. Accepted work format: A3 (297x420mm) at maximum, 5 MB per picture, saved in JPEG format. In the case of objects that cannot be sent by e-mail (e.g. sculptures), please contact us: satyrykon@lck.art.pl. 

II. Prizes 

1. Works for the competition will be qualified by the international Jury. 

2. Jury will award the following prizes: 

* Grand Prix SATYRYKON 2024 – pure gold key and cash prize in the amount of 10.000 PLN 

* 2 gold medals and cash prize in the amount of 7.000 PLN each 

* 2 silver medals and cash prize in the amount of 6.000 PLN each 

* 2 bronze medals and cash prize in the amount of 5.000 PLN each 

* and 4 special prizes amounting to 4.000 PLN each. 

3. Special prizes will be awarded: 

* Mayor of Legnica in amount of 4.000 PLN award 

* Director of Legnica Culture Centre in amount of 4.000 PLN award 

* Museum of Caricature in Warsaw in amount of 4.000 PLN 

* Satyrykon`s Andrzej Tomiałojć Foundation in amount of 4.000 PLN award. 

The organisers are expecting extra awards for laureates: 

for the Author of THE BEST DEBUT and the Author of THE STUDENT DEBUT to be accompanied by a solo exhibition at the Satyrykon Gallery within the programme of SATYRYKON 2024 events. 

Jury has the right of final distribution of the statutory prizes, i.e. to change their number, not to award them, or not to award the Grand Prix SATYRYKON. Jury’s decisions are final. 

The index of works qualified for the 2nd stage of the competition will be announced on 25th January 2024 at Satyrykon webpage: www.satyrykon.pl. 

The condition for participation in the 2nd stage of the competition is sending by the Author of the qualified works for exhibition (in physical form) by March 5, 2024 (works present at the organizers premises) to the following address:

Works qualified for the 2nd stage, but not sent by the author to the organizer’s address, will be excluded from the competition. 

We do not accept works larger than A3, such works will be sent back at the expense of the participant!

The competition results will be announced on 11th March 2024. 

3. Participation in the competition is free of charge. The work originals will be returned on condition that the Author donates one of the works of her/his choice to the Satyrykon Gallery – as a form of compensation for posting costs. In case there is no clear Author’s indication, the organizer may post the work back on the Author’s cost. Details of payment and return will be arranged in individual e-mail correspondence.

IN-KIND AND CASH AWARDS ARE SUBJECT TO TAXATION ACCORDING TO THE CURRENT REGULATIONS. The condition to pay the authors is their arrival for the opening of the exhibition or the awards can be transferred into a bank account in a currency specified by the author. 

III. Participants’ privileges 

1. Authors of the works qualified to the exhibition are given a presentation copy of the exhibition catalogue and a free-of-charge place in the catalogue. 

2. Organisers provide competition prize-winners with gratuitous participation in the SATYRYKON 2024 event on June 14-16, 2024. 

3. Works sent to the exhibitions will be exhibited in Poland and abroad after the main exhibition, and then will be returned to their authors by the end of 2025.

IV. Final provisions 

1. Organisers reserve the right to use the sent works for SATYRYKON advertising purposes without any special fees paid to the authors: to be exhibited and reproduced in a variety of advertising materials, as well as printed and circulated in catalogues. 

2. The prize-winning works become the property of the organisers and will be included in the collection of the Satyrykon Gallery. 

3. The exhibition organisers are the final judges in interpretation of the regulations. 

4. Sending her/his work the artist agrees to the mentioned above rules and regulations and agrees to publication of the author’s profile in the post-exhibition catalogue.

Cultural Centre of Urziceni Municipality, Municipality of Urziceni and HumorPLA.NET international website are very glad to invite you to participate in the 15th International Cartoon Contest Urziceni 2023, Romania. 

COMPETITION RULES: 

1. The 15th ICC Urziceni is an open competition for cartoonists all over the world. The participation is free of charge. 

2. Will be submitted up to 5 works for the FREE THEME (portraits are also accepted) and also up to 5 works for the Theme "CELEBRATING ANYTHING!" 

3. Deadline: November 20, 2023. 

4. The presentation of the cartoons must contain the entrant’s last name, country and the title of work (in English). 

Works must be digitized in 300 DPI resolution, RGB colour mode, in JPG format, with a maximum size of 2 MB. 

5. Send your cartoons and your CV to the e-mail address:

6. The cartoons submitted to the contest will be exhibited on the Urziceni website, so that they can be  carefully studied by the cartoonist, in order to prevent similarity, copying and stealing. Any similar, copied or stolen cartoon will not be awarded. 

The contest results will be announced on the Urziceni 2023 website . 

7. The International Jury will award the following prizes for the best works, regardless of their category:

GOLD PRIZE – USD 500, Special Honour Diploma and a Personal Gallery on HumorPLA.NET website. 

SILVER PRIZE - USD 250, Special Honour Diploma and a Personal Gallery on HumorPLA.NET website. 

BRONZE PRIZE - USD 150, Special Honour Diploma and a Personal Gallery on HumorPLA.NET website. 

SPECIAL PRIZE - USD 150 for the most representative portrait of the Romanian writer CONSTANTIN TOIU.  

Ten EXCELLENCY Special Honour Diplomas and a Personal Gallery on HumorPLA.NET website. 

The Jury’s decisions are final. Other Special Prizes offered by the sponsors may be awarded. 

The prizes can be paid in Urziceni or can be sent by post and the recipient will bear the cost of sending them. 

The organizer does not assume any liability regarding the taxes or bank charges. 

The originals of the winning cartoons should be sent by mail, within a maximum period of two weeks after the results are announced, well wrapped and protected against damages. 

8. By their participation, the entrants grant the organizers the right to use their entries as advertising in Urziceni International Cartoon Contest and on HumorPLA.NET website (e.g. as cartoon books, catalogues, mass-media advertising, internet and other media, separate promotional printed works such as posters, leaflets, etc., promotional gifts offered by the City Council and/or cartoon contest organization, calendars, etc) without any special fees paid to the authors.
