Soon after that torture and seizing his property, he was died in 1950.
Stanisław Jerzy Lec, (6 March 1909 – 7 May 1966) (born Baron Stanisław Jerzy de Tusch-Letz) was a Polish poet and aphorist of Polish and Jewish noble origin. Often mentioned among the greatest writers of post-WW2 Poland, he was one of the most influential aphorists on the 20th century.
Lyrical poetry, sceptical philosophical-moral aphorisms, often with a political subtext.
Jaroslav Hašek, (April 30, 1883 – January 3, 1923) was a Czech humorist and satirist best known for his novel The Good Soldier Švejk, an unfinished collection of farcical incidents about a soldier in World War I, which has been translated into sixty languages. He also wrote some 1,500 short stories. He was a journalist, bohemian, and practical joker. His short life had many odd parallels with another Prague contemporary, the Jewish writer Franz Kafka (1883–1924).
Radoje Domanovic, (February 4, 1873 - August 4, 1908) was a Serbian writer and teacher, most famous for his satirical short stories. In 1899, he published two collections of short stories and his famous story "Danga" first appeared. The following year, he got a post as a clerk in the State's Archive. In 1902, after he published "Stradija", he was again dismissed from his post. He started writing editorials for magazine "Odjek" ("Reflection"). After the coup in 1903, Domanovic returned to his post, and soon got a stipend to work on his stories. Humour can save the daily -The Australian
Hi all,
Cartoonists have received some good pro-active coverage in today's The Australian.
CARTOONISTS may have played a crucial role in the Australian newspaper industry - and they may have been lauded by John Hartigan, chairman and chief executive of News Limited (publisher of The Australian) at an exhibition opening several weeks ago - but the scribblers fear they are being slowly squeezed out of existence.
Nevertheless, they believe cartoons could be the key to luring younger readers back to newspapers.
Hartigan called a truce with his occasional foe ABC managing director Mark Scott last month to launch an exhibition of some of Australia's best political cartoons.
"Mark and I don't agree on everything," Hartigan said. "But I am sure he would acknowledge that while there are things broadcasters do better than newspapers, political cartooning isn't one of them.
"This great craft is not immune to new technology, but it remains an art that finds its best expression in newspapers."

American caricaturist David Levine passed away (December 20, 1926 – December 29, 2009)
World-famous caricaturist David Levine dies at the age of 83 on Tuesday at New York Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan of prostate cancer and complications from other ailments. He was diagnosed with the eye disease macular degeneration in 2006.
Levine's drawings of politicians, literary people and historical figures typically had large heads and exaggerated features. Especially his political portraits showed the mind of an artist worriedly concerned about the world in which he lived: Among his most famous images is that of President Lyndon B. Johnson pulling up his shirt to reveal that his gallbladder operation scar was shaped like the map of Vietnam.
Levine's work appeared in The New York Review of Books, Esquire, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Rolling Stone, Sports Illustrated, Time and The New Yorker, among other publications.
Levine also did watercolor paintings, many depicting New York scenes.
