WORLD PRESS CARTOON - Sintra 2009
1. SPECIFICATIONS AND SCOPE
a) The World Press Cartoon can be regarded as the benchmark of quality and prestige for all those involved in the world of the humor graphic cartoon in print. It will cover three main areas: editorial cartoon, caricature and gag cartoon.
b) The World Press Cartoon will not be a thematic event. Its objectives will be to distinguish the best-produced and published works in 2008.
c) In the category CARICATURE, only caricature works in a restricted sense will be considered, i.e. exclusively those of a humorous nature.
d) In the category GAG CARTOON will be considered works that do not feature subjects dealing with current issues.
e) In the category EDITORIAL CARTOON all entries must deal with actual contemporary events or personalities.
f) The authors are totally free to submit what they consider to be their best work, although, it is obvious that those characters, themes and events of a more universal nature will be better suited for an international competition as the World Press Cartoon.
2. EXHIBITION
The Prize-giving Gala and the Exhibition of the selected works will take place in the Spring of 2009 at the following venues: Sintra Museu de Arte Moderna and Centro Cultural Olga Cadaval, both in Sintra.
3. ELIGIBILITY
a) Only the originals of the works will be accepted.
b) Top quality prints of works achieved by digital tools will be considered originals as long as the author signs them. These will also require, in attachment, a description of the techniques and software used.
c) The format of the works cannot exceed the European standard measurement A3: 420 x 297 mm.
d) Each cartoonist can submit 1 original for each of the 3 different categories: editorial cartoon, caricature and gag cartoon.
e) It is an essential pre-requisite for eligibility that the original works were published between Jan.1 and Dec. 31, 2008 in newspapers or magazines, published on a regular basis and on sale to the public.
f) To make proof of the previous condition, each original work must be accompanied with the corresponding printed page, in which the date and the title of the publication must be clearly visible.
g) The author must also attach the header of the newspaper or magazine where the works were published, making sure that both the size and quality will allow for its reproduction.
h) In such cases as the original work supports a title or a caption, a translation in English is obligatory, to be clearly written on the corresponding identification label.
i) The works should be received by the organization's secretariat in Lisbon by Jan. 31, 2009.
4. PACKAGING
Original works must be posted in flat packaging, between two hard boards.
5. WORK AND AUTHOR IDENTIFICATION
Each of the works for submission must carry an entry form and identification label, clearly filled in, and attached to the reverse side of the original. Entry form: www.feedmerecords.com/ENTRY_FORM_WPC2009.pdf
6. JURY
a) The Jury of five members will be presided by the Salon director.
b) The Jury will convene in order to examine all the entries and then will deliberate and decide on the prizewinners and runners-up. The Jury will also choose which of the original works will go into the exhibition and the catalogue.
c) The decisions of the Jury will be taken by majority vote and will be final.
7. SALE
a) The authors may choose to sell their works at the exhibition.
b) If an author wishes to sell his/her work(s), this should be clearly marked on the entry form and identification label, together with the intended price in euros.
c) The organization of the World Press Cartoon will add a gallery's fee to the author's original price.
d) The digital works will not be for sale.
8. RETURN OF THE WORKS
a) All the works, which comply with the eligibility items, will be returned to their authors, independently of having been chosen or not for the exhibition, with the exception of those sold or prizewinners.
b) However, the works chosen for the exhibition could also be selected to participate in other exhibitions and, consequently, returned to their authors at a later stage.
9. CATALOGUE
a) All the participants with selected works will receive a copy of the catalogue.
b) The Editors of the newspapers and magazines where the selected works were published will also receive a copy of the catalogue.
10. ROYALTIES
a) The submission of a completed entry form and identification label will automatically imply the waiving of the author's royalties vis-a-vis the non-commercial reproduction of his/her work.
b) The awarding of a prize to a specific work will automatically imply the waiving of its author's royalties to the organisation of the World Press Cartoon.
11. PRIZES
a) The structure of the prizes will be as follows :
Grand Prix ... 20000 Euro

1st Prize: 5000 Euro....... 5000 Euro..... 5000 Euro
2nd Prize: 2500 Euro...... 2500 Euro..... 2500 Euro
3rd Prize: 1000 Euro....... 1000 Euro..... 1000 Euro
b) Chosen from all the entries in the competition, the World Press Cartoon will award the best work with the Grand Prix of 20 000 euros.
c) The Grand Prix winning work will be chosen from the three first-prize winners in each category.
d) The author of the Grand Prix winning work will receive exclusively this prize, i.e. it will not be added to the first prize.
e) The value of the prizes refer to gross amounts only and, consequently, will be liable to conform to Portuguese law.
f) In accordance with the quality of the works for evaluation, the members of the Jury reserve the right to award or not all the prizes.
g) All the prizes will be authenticated with a diploma and the winners will receive a trophy.
h) Commemorative diplomas will also be issued to the newspapers and magazines that published the prizewinning works.
i) The prizewinning works will become property of the World Press Cartoon organisation.
j) The members of the Jury may also consider awarding additional runners-up status to some works. These will receive a corresponding diploma.
k) All the authors with selected works both in the exhibition as well as in the catalogue will receive certificates of participation in the World Press Cartoon.

6th Comic Competition VELES 2008 - R. Macedonia

OPEN (PUBLIC) COMPETITION FOR 6th comic competition VELES 2008 (14, 15, 16 NOVEMBER 2008)
Proportions:
The right to participate have all comic authors from the country and all the world.
Extension of the comic can be at least 6 tables and send quality copy in A4 format.
The subject for the comic is free.
The text for the comic can be on: Macedonian language (for the Macedonian authors), in English, or Ex-Yu languages (for the authors from these countries).
Each author can take part with just one comic.
On one comic can work more than one authors.
Each participant must send: personal photography, short biography with address of living, telephone, e-mail and the year when the comic is made.
All payable comic will be represented on common display.
All comics will be graded by three member committee which will give these three prizes:
1st prize: the golden comic*
2nd prize and 3rd prize*
Prize for best subject ( screenplay)
Prize for the youngest author (to 18 years) - a placket
• Note: there will be money prizes if we'll be able to supply them.

THE UNITED NATIONS CORRESPONDENTS ASSOCIATION RANAN LURIE POLITICAL CARTOON AWARD AND THE UNITED NATIONS SOCIETY OF WRITERS & ARTISTS RANAN LURIE POLITICAL CARTOON AWARD for 2008
Plan of Award
The prizes are to be announced during the month of December 2008, and will be granted at The United Nations, New York. Thirteen (13) prizes will be granted in the presence of the Secretary General of the U.N., the Honorable Ban Ki-moon.
First prize, of $10,000.00 and a plaque, will be presented by Dr. Elie Wiesel, Nobel Laureate, Chairman of the Judging Committee.
Second prize, of $5,000.00 and a plaque, will be presented by Tuyet Nguyen, President of the United Nations Correspondents Association.
Third prize, of $3,000.00 and a plaque, will be awarded.
Ten (10) honorable mentions, in the form of plaques, will be declared by Tuyet Nguyen, President of UNCA.
All winning entries will be announced via the worldwide press.
Rules for Exhibits:
1. Entries must be submitted in writing and addressed to THE UNITED NATIONS RANAN LURIE POLITICAL CARTOON AWARD, Trump Tower, 721 Fifth Ave, Suites 59H & 60H, New York, NY 10022 (no phone or fax calls, please). Entries for awards must be received on or before October 1, 2008, to cover work done in the year 2007/8, reflecting the importance of human dignity, mutual respect and friendship among nations, as well as economic consideration and environmental responsibilities towards each other. While cartoonists may send in what ever they please, the contest does not encourage maligning member nations or their leaders.
Winning cartoons will be chosen for their ability to enhance, explain and even help direct the spirit and principles of the U.N.
2. Entries for these awards may be made by any professional individual, and should consist of political cartoons printed in any publication published anywhere, in any language. The entry must consist of a reproduction (only reproductions will be accepted!) of the cartoons, as published, with name of publication, language, and date included, accompanied by a newspaper reprint, and translated into English. Exhibits are limited to two cartoons per person. Reproductions must be presented measuring no larger than 9 x 12 inches.
THE COMMITTEE
requires that every entry conform to the stated limits and size before it can be given jury consideration. All exhibits should include a biography and picture of entrant, and be in English.
3. All materials including prize-winning exhibits become the property of THE UNITED NATIONS RANAN LURIE POLITICAL CARTOON AWARD COMMITTEE and will not be returned. Only copies (not originals!) will be accepted for consideration. All material may be used for promotional purposes, including but not limited to inclusion in a special United Nations albums and exhibits. The decisions of the judges are final and irrevocable.

Humoreix: 1st Prize for Caricatures in Lleida’s Eix Comercial - Spain
Conditions
1. Any artist, amateur or professional, can participate in this competition, as it is a competition which is open internationally.
2. The competition theme is: “International Politicians”.
3. Only one original piece of work will be accepted from each participant. The piece must be original, not have won any prizes in previous competitions or have been published anywhere else. Any pieces which are considered, according to the criteria of the judges, to be similar in any way to other well known artwork will be disqualified immediately.
4. Artwork can be executed using any pictorial technique within a maximum scale of A3 (420 x 297mm) or a scale which is proportional to this. Digitally formatted work will also be accepted. In this case the work must have a resolution of 300 ppi and be presented in JPG or JPGE format.
If any text is present in the work it must be translated into Spanish or Catalan.
5. Artwork must be presented within a sealed envelope together with the details of the participant (name, surname, address, nationality, telephone number, email address, etc) also within a sealed envelope. Work can also be sent by email to the following address: eix@eixcomerciallleida.com (Eix Comercial), with the participant’s details in another document attached to the same email. It is advisable for artwork that is not digital to be colour photocopied and hand signed. All original artwork will be returned to the artist once the competition has finished.
6. The final admissions date for artwork is 10th September 2008.
7. From 15th September 2008 artwork will be exhibited in the shops that are members of the Association of the Lleida Eix Comercial (Shopping District), and will be duly labelled. Prior to this a panel of specialist judges will be convened, formed by one representative of Humoralia, another from the Shopping District and two professionals who will judge the 150 best entrees, which will be exhibited. These artworks will also be exhibited on the Eix Comercial (Shopping District) Association website. The judges reserve the right to declare the prize null and void if the quality of the originals is insufficient or if there is little or no public interest.
8. The artist is obliged to give up all image copyrights for the artwork presented for its publication and exhibition, both physical and digital, (exclusively for the competition). Once the work has been judged and finalized it will be returned to the artist. The organization pledges not to use images of the winning piece, or any other award winning pieces, without prior permission from the artist. Moreover, the organization will take full responsibility for the originals from the moment they are received until the finalization of the competition. The organization promises to inform the contestants of the reception and acceptance of the participating artwork via email or publication on the Eix website.
9. One prize only of €1,500 will be awarded to the winning entry.
10. The verdict will be decided by public vote over the Internet using the Shopping District’s website. The judges’ decision will not be open to appeal.
11. The verdict will be released during the 3rd and 4th October 2008.
12. Participation in the competition means the acceptance of all terms and conditions. Any doubts or problems that may arise during this time will be dealt with by the organization through a memo to its members.
