Main theme: ‘The Artist’
Behind a conformist façade (as seen in René Magritte) or an extravagant image (such as Salvador Dalí and Vincent van Gogh) hides the struggling artist. Overwhelmed by an ever-growing mountain of information and drifting in an ocean of inner sensations, they search for that universal image that is meaningful in itself.
The artist seeks the momentum between conscious action and automatism, between acquired skills and the abandonment of conventions. Some achieve museum-worthy status, while others must settle for a mere footnote in the newspaper—or not even that.
For 40,000 years, visionary artists have amazed the world with images that explore harmony, emotion, threat, and mystery in original ways. Plenty of inspiration to tempt cartoonists.

Theme ‘Right to everyone who needs shelter
Every day, all over the world, people make one of the most difficult decisions of their lives: they leave their homes in search of safety or a better life. These are people fleeing armed conflict, severe weather and other difficult circumstances. Some of them feel unsafe because they are being targeted by their governments, because of who they are, who they love or what they believe in.
People on the run are at great risk of having their human rights violated. If countries do not allow them to apply for international protection, they risk finding themselves in situations that are dangerous to their safety and their lives.
It is the duty of governments to protect these people and to offer them a life of dignity, safety and freedom, regardless of their residence status. Everyone has the right to apply for international protection and to find shelter where they can stay in safety.
