Kaktus Cartoon Award 2025, Austria: The Solution / Die Lösung

Kaktus Cartoon Award 2025
The Solution / Die Lösung
Worldwide conflicts, wars, inequality, poverty, disasters, climate change…
And on top of that, the little problems of everyday life.
Resignation and escapism? – Not with us!
Kaktus 2025 proudly presents: The Solution / Die Lösung
Artists have always been an important voice during times of upheaval.
Cartoonists, with their often unconventional and humorous contributions, can highlight problems, question preconceived opinions, and thus make a valuable contribution to the debate.
So today, we ask the cartoonists of this world: What is the solution?
The solution to what? Each artist decides for themselves.
Big or small problems, simple or complex, serious or funny.
Because humor can bring the lightness needed to find a solution.
Prize Money:
The Kaktus Cartoon Award 2025 - The Solution/Die Lösung honors the three best cartoons, selected by an independent jury.

“Sinop, which takes its name from Sinope, which made Zeus fall in love with it, is under threat from a nuclear power plant and a copper mine these days. Diogenes of Sinop, instead of wandering around with a lantern in his hand during the day and “looking for people”, was seeking support for the protection of Sinop’s nature… We would like to thank all the artists of the world who did not remain indifferent to Diogenes’ search and supported our struggle for a “Livable Environment” with their beautiful works…”

The 4th International Graphic Humor Exhibition of Pernambuco 2025, Brazil

Regulations of the 4th International Graphic Humor Exhibition of Pernambuco
(SIHG-PE)
1. THEME
To use laughter as a magnifying glass—allowing problems and solutions to be seen more clearly—we are opening registrations for the 4th edition of the International Graphic Humor Exhibition of Pernambuco (SIHG-PE), under the theme “Planet for All.”
The goal is to engage graphic artists from around the world and provide a platform to make a difference, offering a fresh perspective on environmental issues and turning humor into a tool for social mobilization. After all, laughter is a powerful catalyst for critical thinking, and art often shines a bright light on both local and global issues that are frequently overlooked in daily life.
As a tribute to individuals who have made recognized contributions to making Earth a true Planet for All, the caricature category will feature the sub-theme “Environmentalists.” The aim is to highlight historical and contemporary figures who have fought for environmental preservation and sustainable development worldwide—such as Greta Thunberg, Chico Mendes, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jane Fonda, Ailton Krenak, Jacques Cousteau, Marina Silva, Gisele Bündchen, Marcos Palmeira, Angelina Jolie, Emma Watson, Isabel Fillardis, Bono Vox, Nakabuye Hilda Flavia, Nemonte Nenquimo, Julia Carabias Lillo, Nzambi Matee, Xiaoyuan Ren, among many others.
2. ABOUT THE SIHG-PE
Through a contest of cartoons, caricatures, and comics, the SIHG-PE aims to promote reflection on the Planet, its diversity, and the current environmental crisis. Topics such as air, water, and soil pollution will be central. Artworks may address both the direct and indirect consequences of pollution—including effects on wildlife, human health, and the degradation of the planet’s natural beauty.
Another prominent topic is food quality and the environmental impact of food production. Artists are encouraged to create works that challenge the sustainability of our food systems, exploring issues such as excessive pesticide use, deforestation for cattle farming, and the exploitation of rural workers. Global warming, resource waste, sustainable urban mobility, and the need for clean, renewable energy may also be explored. Addressing these issues through humor helps make them more accessible and sparks transformation.
3. ELIGIBILITY
a) The competition is open to all graphic artists, amateur or professional, of any nationality.
b) Each participant may submit up to 2 (two) works per category: cartoon, caricature, and comic strips, as long as the works have not received awards prior to submission to SIHG.
c) By entering the contest, the participant acknowledges they are solely responsible for the accuracy of their information and for the authorship of submitted works, and may face civil and criminal liability in the event of false claims.
d) The SIHG-PE will not accept works created or generated using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
e) Individuals directly involved in organizing, judging, or producing the SIHG-PE—as well as their relatives up to the second degree—are not eligible to participate.
4. REGISTRATION
a) Registration forms will be available on the website www.sihgpe.org
b) Registration can only be completed via the website.
c) A separate registration form must be filled out for each category, with the related works attached.
d) Submissions must be in A3 format (297 mm x 420 mm), either portrait or landscape, in JPEG format, with a 300 DPI resolution. In the case of comics, only stories with 1 to 4 pages will be accepted.
e) The organization is not responsible for registrations or files not received due to technical issues, communication failures, or any other factors preventing successful submission.
f) Confirmation of registration will be sent by email.
g) Submission implies full acceptance of this regulation, including the final results of the competition and the terms regarding usage and rights of the submitted works.
5. USE AND RIGHTS OF SUBMITTED WORKS
a) All entries will undergo a pre-selection process. Selected works will be included in the SIHG-PE exhibition, and the complete list will be published on the website www.sihgpe.org
b) Authors of selected works will grant SIHG non-exclusive rights to use the images for promotional purposes during the current and future editions of the event. Awarded works may be used permanently to promote SIHG and future editions. No monetary compensation will be provided for these uses, as all participation is voluntary and governed by the selection and awards criteria outlined in these regulations.
6. DEADLINES
a) Submissions will be accepted from April 30, 2025, until 11:59 p.m. on August 10, 2025 (Brasília time).
b) Judging will take place on August 30, 2025.
c) The exhibition will run from December 9, 2025, to February 1, 2026.
7. JUDGING, SELECTION, AND AWARDS
a) Selection and awards will be based on creativity, originality, and relevance to the proposed theme. All decisions by the judging panel are final and must be accepted by the participants.
b) The contest will feature two separate judging panels: one for selection and one for awards. The first, composed of professionals in the field of graphic humor, will select approximately 120 works for the exhibition and catalog. From these, the award-winning works will be chosen.
c) Six (6) works will be awarded, with first and second prizes in each category.

Climate Justice Theme: the search for a fair division of investments and responsibilities in combating the climate emergency, guided by the guarantee and protection of human rights, collective and diffuse rights and considering the historical responsibilities for climate change.
This approach recognizes that the impacts of the climate crisis affect different regions and populations in an unequal and unfair manner, being especially severe for the most vulnerable.
In this urgent socio-environmental context, the Piracicaba International Humor Exhibition invites artists from around the world to express, through different arts and styles of graphic humor, their views, criticisms and reflections on the topic. Humor has the power to provoke, raise awareness, mobilize and transform consciences — and it is this force that we seek to bring together in this edition. Works that instigate debate, reveal contradictions and inspire solutions, expanding this essential conversation about the future of the planet and humanity through climate justice, sustainable use of nature and conservation of biodiversity.
