International Cartoon Contest "BY BUS"
The Estonian Humour Museum, in cooperation with its partners, international bus company Lux Express and @Tallinn Bus Station (Tallinna Bussijaam), announces an international cartoon contest on the theme: "BY BUS". 
Theme Description: The content of the cartoons must be related to bus transport in its broadest sense. We welcome works reflecting bus travel, bus stations, drivers, and passengers at both local and international levels. Is the bus just a vehicle or a social phenomenon? What happens on a long journey? How does the world look through a bus window? Etc. We are looking for a witty and clever approach! 
Prize Fund: 
• I Prize – 750 € and diploma 
• II Prize – 500 € and diploma 
• III Prize – 250 € and diploma 
• 2 Special Prizes – 150 € each and diploma (Intended for Estonian cartoonists to encourage local participation if they do not reach the top three, or a special prize from Lux Express). 
Rules and Conditions of the Competition: 
• Participants and Number of Works: Each author may submit an unlimited number of thematic caricatures. However, only one work per author can compete for a prize (the best one). 
• Originality: Caricatures may have been published previously, but they must not have won awards in other competitions. The author is responsible for ensuring their submitted work does not violate third-party copyrights. 
• Entries produced using AI text-to-image generating software or platforms are not eligible to be qualified for the competition. AI-generated artwork or entries based on AI-generated artwork will be disqualified. 
• Technical Requirements: 
o Format: JPG or PNG. 
o Quality: At least 300 dpi (suitable for printing in A3 format or larger). 
o Both color and black-and-white works are allowed. 
o Accepting signed pc prints 
• Language: Cartoons should generally be wordless. Internationally known abbreviations and expressions (OK, S.O.S., HELP, etc.) are allowed. As an exception, caricatures with up to 5 words in English are permitted. 
• Entry Details: Along with the works, the email must include the author's: 
o First name and surname 
o Exact postal address (with postal/zip code) 
o Email address 
o Phone number 
o A photo and a short CV is recommended. 
• Deadline and Submission: Entries must be sent by March 1, 2026, at the latest to the email address: cartoon@eestihuumor.ee or by post to: Eesti Huumorimuuseum, Purku, Rapla vald, Raplamaa, Estonia. 
• Results: Winners will be announced no later than April 1, 2026. The results will be published on media channels and on the organizers' website. Awarded participants will be notified personally. 
• International jury: Andrus Tamm, director of Estonian Humour Museum, cartoonists Heiki Ernits (EST), Valdek Alber (EST), Gatis Šļūka (LAT), Heino Prunsvelt (EST) and Hugo Osula, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of International Bus Company Lux Express. 
Exhibitions and Catalogue: 
• The best cartoons will be selected for an exhibition displayed at the Estonian Humour Museum (Purku village, Rapla County) and Tallinn Bus Station, Estonia. The exhibition may also be presented as a traveling exhibition elsewhere in Estonia. 
• The best 100 cartoons will be published in a thematic catalogue. 
• All participants will receive a free digital exhibition catalogue (PDF), which can be downloaded from www.eestihuumor.ee. The top 20 participants will receive a printed catalogue by mail. 
Copyright: The Estonian Humour Museum and Lux Express reserve the right to use the submitted works free of charge for organizing exhibitions, publishing printed materials, and promoting the competition/exhibition in media and advertising materials (referencing the author's name). Submitted works, which will be kept in a digital archive, will not be returned. However, works received on paper will be returned if the author asks. If a request is not made, paper cartoons will remain in the archives of the Estonian Museum of Humor; in the case of originals, the author may request a certificate of donation.

52nd International Graphic Humor Competition Umoristi a Marostica 2026

1. Theme of the Competition and Participation Guidelines 
The competition is open to cartoonists, illustrators, and graphic artists from all over the world. Participants may request to take part out of competition. This option excludes the author from eligibility for awards. 
The theme of the 2026 competition is: HOPE 
Each participant may submit a maximum of 3 works (cartoons or strips) related to the proposed theme, interpreted in relation to humanity and the society we live in, viewed through a humorous perspective. The works must contain no dialogue or text. They must also be unpublished (never published or submitted to other competitions). 
The organizers reserve the right to exclude from award consideration any works found to have been previously published. 
2. Submission Methods and Deadlines 
The deadline for submitting Artworks is 28/02/2026 
Artworks can be submitted in the following ways:

Postal Delivery 
Artworks may be sent together with the participation form (downloadable here) containing all the author’s details, using the postal service or courier to the address: 
Umoristi a Marostica – Biblioteca Civica – Via Cairoli, 3 – 36063 Marostica (VI) – ITALY 
Artworks, whether in black and white or colour and created in any drawing technique, must be in JPEG, PNG or GIF format at 150 dpi, high quality, with a maximum file size of 3 MB. Files of larger dimensions will not be accepted. The acceptance of the Artworks, the selection process and the awarding of prizes are at the exclusive discretion of the Jury appointed by the Gruppo Grafico Marosticense. 
The Jury’s judgement is final and irrevocable. 
3. Sending Original Artworks and Prize Assignment 
All selected authors will receive an e-mail from the Committee with details regarding the timing and methods for sending the original Artworks that will be exhibited in the exhibition. If the Artworks created are exclusively in digital format, the author must send a signed copy of the Artwork, numbered as a print. The Artworks must arrive postage paid and customs-free. 
The Jury will award the “Premio Internazionale Scacchiera”, the “Sandro Carlesso Special Prize”, the “Marco Sartore Special Prize”, and 10 “Umoristi a Marostica” Prizes. Any special or honorary prizes not listed may be assigned at the Jury’s discretion. The results of the competition will be communicated to all participating authors by e-mail and published on the website https://www.umoristiamarostica.it/ .
4. Exhibition and Acceptance of the Regulation 
The inauguration of the exhibition will take place on 9 May 2026 in Marostica. 
The exhibition will remain open until 7 June 2026. 
Selected Artworks for the exhibition and catalogue will not be returned and will remain the property of the “Museo di Umorista a Marostica” Archive. 
The Gruppo Grafico Marosticense reserves the right to reproduce and display the Artworks in all communication and promotional materials identifying the author with the wording “by Umoristi a Marostica”, without any compensation. While ensuring the utmost care of the Artworks, the organisation declines all responsibility for any damages that may occur during transport. 
Participation in the competition implies full acceptance of this Regulation and expressly authorises the Gruppo Grafico Marosticense to process personal data sent by each author in accordance with data protection laws (EU Regulation 2016/679), including for the purpose of inserting such data into databases managed by the Group for the organisation of the competition.
